James Duncan (Pennsylvania Politician)
James Duncan (1756 – June 24, 1844) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. James Duncan born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the common schools and Princeton College. He served as the first prothonotary of Adams County, Pennsylvania. During the American Revolutionary War he was appointed as a lieutenant in Colonel Moses Hazen’s 2nd Canadian Regiment on November 3, 1776, and on March 25, 1778, was promoted to captain. Duncan was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Seventeenth Congress but resigned before Congress assembled. He died in Mercer County, Pennsylvania Mercer County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 110,652. James Burness Duncan (10 December 1930 – 1 December 2014) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left. Duncan started his senior career with Celtic having been signed from Baillieston Juniors and scored on his debut against St Mirren on 1 November 1952, at age 22. Dr James Matthews Duncan FRS FRSE FRCP FRCPE LLD (April 1826 – 1 September 1890) was a Scottish physician, known as a practitioner of and author on obstetrics. Life The fifth child of William Duncan, a merchant, and his wife Isabella Matthews, he was born on 29 April 1826 in Aberdeen. After education at Aberdeen grammar school, he entered Marischal College, Aberdeen, studying Medicine and graduated M.A. in April 1843. He continued study at Edinburgh University in 1845, and, returning to Aberdeen, graduated M.D. in 1846, before he was 21. Duncan spent the winter of 1846–7 in Paris, attending the lectures of Gabriel Andral, Jean Cruveilhier, Mathieu Orfila, and Alfred-Armand-Louis-Marie Velpeau. He returned in April 1847, and shortly became the assistant in Edinburgh of James Young Simpson. James Duncan (United States Army Officer)
James Duncan (September 29, 1811 – July 3, 1849) became a hero of the Mexican–American War for his capable command of an artillery battery at several important battles. He was a graduate of United States Military Academy in 1834 and served in the Seminole Wars. In 1848, he became involved in a post-war squabble between several general officers, though it did not harm his prospects. After his exploits in the Mexican–American War, he was appointed Inspector general of the US Army. A promising career was cut short when he died of yellow fever on an inspection tour of Mobile, Alabama in 1849. Early career James Duncan was born on September 29, 1811, at Philipstown, New York. James Duncan (May 5, 1857 – September 14, 1928) was a Scottish American union leader, and president of the Granite Cutters' International Association from 1895 until his death in 1928. He was an influential member of the American labor movement, helping to co-found the American Federation of Labor. James Duncan FRSE FRCS FRCSE (2 November 1810 – 16 August 1866) was a Scottish surgeon and manufacturing chemist responsible for much of the British supply of chloroform in the mid-19th century. From 1839 to 1866 he was Director of Duncan Flockhart & Co one of Scotland’s largest chemical manufacturers.
