James Doherty (born 17 December 1966) is an English actor. Life and career Born in Guildford, Surrey, he was educated at Felsted School in Essex and was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He trained at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating in 1989. He is married to TV presenter Joanna Sinnott and together they have two children, Jago (2006) & Nell (2013). Jim Doherty (13 September 1958 – 4 August 2024) was a Scottish footballer who played as a midfielder. Doherty began his career with hometown team Kilmarnock, before moving to Clyde in 1981. He enjoyed the best spell of his career at Shawfield, making over 200 appearances in all competitions for the club. He had spells with Queen of the South and Stranraer Stranraer ( , in Scotland also ; gd, An t-Sròn Reamhar ), also known as The Toon, is a town in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Jim Doherty (born 1939) is an Irish composer and jazz pianist. He is a member of Aosdána, an elite association of Irish artists. Early life Jim Doherty was born in 1939; he was a son of Michael Kevin O'Doherty and Patricia (née Roche); and grandson of the Irish republican couple Katherine O'Doherty (1881–1969) and Séamus O'Doherty (1882–1945). The family lived in Sandymount, Dublin. Career Doherty has been performing since the late 1950s, leading jazz trios, quartets and bands. One of his earliest roles was with the Chris Lamb & The Universals showband. He went to London in 1960 to study composition and orchestration. In 1965, he competed in the Irish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest; his Jim Doherty Trio performed "Love Me Truly" but did not win. In 1968, his Jim Doherty Quartet won the Press Prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival for the jazz suite ''Gael Blowin'', based on Irish traditional music. Jim Doherty is a clay pigeon shooter. He hails from Newtowncunningham, County Donegal, and has excelled in clay pigeon shooting both at national and international level, and has captained his national clay pigeon team. In 2011, he became the first Irishman to win all four home majors in clay pigeon shooting. He received the Donegal Sport Star Award in January 2012. Born in Paisley, his father Seamus Doherty came from Ballyshannon and his mother Nora came from Gweedore. Early life Born in Ilford, Doherty moved to Clavering in Essex at the age of three. A childhood friend of Jamie Oliver, he attended Clavering Primary School and then studied at Newport Free Grammar School.
