James Dodd (artist)
James Dodd is a South Australian artist, arts educator and street artist who used the pseudonym Dlux for his street art when he operated out of Melbourne. Biography Born in Bordertown in 1977, Dodd has a Bachelor of Visual Art and a Masters of Visual Art from the University of South Australia. Dodd teaches at Adelaide Central School of Art. As a street artist, he used the pseudonym Dlux and was one of a group of street artists who considered legal action against the National Gallery of Australia when it failed to pay them in a timely manner for their works. Career He began doing street art in Adelaide in 1998, using stencils to mass-produce stickers. Dodd moved to Melbourne around 2002 because of the street-art scene. As Dlux, Dodd was a powerful presence on the Melbourne streets but also undertook a large amount of gallery work, and his stencils were always very politically motivated. The National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) is a professional organization for individuals practicing architecture and allied professionals to advance justice and equity in communities of color. History In 1968, activist and executive director of the National Urban League, Whitney Young was invited to address the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention in Portland, Oregon as the keynote speaker. In his speech, he addressed the institute's silent stance on the turmoil in the country and urged them to stand up and endorse the efforts of John F. Kennedy & Martin Luther King Jr. in their actions. This speech encouraged the profession to work towards the advancement of minority architects, who, at the time, made up of 0.05% of AIA's 20,000 members. James Jonas Dodd
James Jonas Dodd (1863 – September 1925) was a British solicitor and political activist. Born in Woolwich, Dodd was educated at Colfe's School in Lewisham. He qualified as a solicitor, specialising in representing working-class members of Hoxton Hall, Kingsgate Baptist Church, and Bell Street Domestic Mission. He also spent time living in Spennymoor and West Hartlepool, and wrote a ''History of Spennymoor''. Dodd worked as a solicitor for many years, and became known as an advocate of legal reform, giving evidence to the Divorce Commission. He joined the Fabian Society in 1910, and through it became active in the Labour Party. James William Dodd (1740?–1796) was an English actor, one of David Garrick's picked company. Early life Born in London about 1740, he is said to have been the son of a hairdresser. He was educated at the grammar school in Holborn. A success in a school performance of the '' Andria'' of Terence decided him to become an actor. Aged 16, Dodd is said to have appeared at Sheffield as Roderigo in '' Othello''. He was met by Tate Wilkinson in Norwich in 1763. He then played in comedy and tragedy, and was popular, according to Wilkinson. An engagement in Bath, Somerset followed, and proved a stepping-stone to London. At Drury Lane John Hoadly saw Dodd in ''The Jealous Wife'' and recommended him to David Garrick, who decided with James Lacy to engage him for Drury Lane Theatre. Prof James Munro Dodd FRS FRSE FZS (1915–1986) was a British marine biologist. He was Emeritus Professor of Zoology at the University College of North Wales in Bangor. He was generally known as Jimmie Dodd. He specialised in Comparative Endocrinology within the field of zoology. In 1982 he was the winner of the Frink Medal, awarded by the Zoological Society of London. Life He was born in Manchester on 26 May 1915. He was educated at Whitehouse School in Brampton. He went to Liverpool University gaining a BSc in 1937 and Diploma in Education in 1938. He then began working as a Biology Master at Cardigan Grammar School. Jimmie Dodd
James Wesley Dodd (March 28, 1910 – November 10, 1964) was an American actor, singer and songwriter best known as the master of ceremonies for the popular 1950s Walt Disney television series ''The Mickey Mouse Club,'' as well as the writer of its well-known theme song "The Mickey Mouse Club March." A different version of this march, much slower in tempo and with different lyrics, became the ''alma mater'' that closed each episode. Dodd grew up in Cincinnati where he was an outstanding amateur tennis player, even reaching the Round of 16 twice at his hometown tournament, now known as the Cincinnati Masters. Later, a heart ailment made him ineligible to serve in combat in World War II, but he and his wife Ruth traveled extensively entertaining the troops.
