James Daly (actor)
James Firman Daly (October 23, 1918 – July 3, 1978) was an American theater, film, and television actor, who is perhaps best known for his role as Paul Lochner in the hospital drama series '' Medical Center'', in which he played Chad Everett's superior. Early life Daly was born in Wisconsin Rapids in Wood County in central Wisconsin, to Dorothy Ethelbert (Hogan) Mullen, who later worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, and Percifer Charles Daly, a fuel merchant. During the 1930s, Daly studied drama and acted in shows before he worked for the armed services, and served with the United States Navy as World War II ended. Daly attended the University of Wisconsin, State University of Iowa, and Carroll College before receiving a degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Cornell College later presented him with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree. James Daly ( bapt. 20 February 1811 – 29 December 1849) was an Irish-born co-operative movement organiser, Owenite, joiner, and founding member of the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers. Biography Daly was born to Charles Daly and Ellen Egan and was baptised on 20 February 1811 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. In 1832 he married Alice Ashurst in Liverpool. Daly moved to Rochdale, Lancashire, where he worked as a joiner and was active in the Owenite movement. In 1844 he was a founding member of the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers, becoming its first secretary. He also worked with Charles Howarth on writing up the rules of the society and had occasional work for the society as a shopfitter. Due to their poverty, Daly and his wife decided to emigrate to Texas in the hope of starting a co-operative community. However, Daly died of cholera on 29 December 1849 in the mid-Atlantic aboard the SS Transit. He was buried at sea. His wife and youngest child also die ... The 1846 Grand Liverpool Steeplechase, later to become known as the Grand National Steeplechase, was the eighth official annual running of a handicap steeplechase. It took place at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool on 4 March 1846 and attracted a then-record field of 22 entrants. It was won by the unconsidered outsider Pioneer. Veluti, ridden by Jem Mason, a rider who had previously won the race in 1839 was sent off as the 11/2 favourite to win while the top weight of 12 stone 8 lbs was given to Firefly, the mount of Larry Byrne. Biography Early life and education Daly was born in the New York City Borough of the Bronx. Growing up on Long Island, when he felt called to become a priest he entered the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, New York, to serve the Diocese of Brooklyn, which at that time covered the entire island. James Daly ( – 1769) was an Irish Member of Parliament. In 1741 he was elected to the Irish House of Commons for Athenry, and then in 1768 for the borough of Galway. He was son of Denis Daly of Carrownakelly, County Galway, and grandson of Denis Daly, a judge of the Court of Common Pleas (Ireland). James Daly, 1st Baron Dunsandle and Clanconal (1 April 1782 – 7 August 1847) was an Irish politician. Background Daly was the eldest son of Denis Daly and Lady Henrietta, daughter of Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Farnham and Henrietta Cantillon, widow of the 3rd Earl of Stafford. James Barry Daly (born 19 March 1980) is a British Conservative Party politician who has been the member of Parliament (MP) for Bury North since the 2019 general election. Early life Daly practiced criminal law as a solicitor for the defence, based in Greater Manchester for 16 years prior to becoming an MP.
