James Cox (Nova Scotia Politician)
James Cox (died 1805*) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Shelburne County in the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia from 1799 to 1805. A loyalist, he came to Nova Scotia from Virginia, settling in Shelburne around 1792. Cox was married twice: first to Elizabeth and then to Margaret Sorrel in 1799. He served as a justice of the peace. With George Gracie, he was co-owner of the privateer ship ''Nelson''. James Renshaw Cox
James Renshaw Cox (1886–1951) was an American Roman Catholic priest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known for his pro-labor activism. He was a candidate for President of the United States in 1932, and also an organizer of an unprecedented protest march on Washington, DC. Biography Cox was born in 1886 in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, growing up in an unparalleled period of industrial expansion. He began as a cab driver and steelworker, working his way through Duquesne University. He next entered Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and was ordained in 1911. From 1917 to 1919, he served in World War I as chaplain at Base Hospital 27 at the Mongazon Seminary in Angers, France. After the war, he enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh, earning a master of economics degree, and he was appointed pastor in 1923 at Old St. Patrick's Church in the Strip District. James Charles Cox (21 July 1834 – 29 September 1912) was an Australian physician and conchologist. Early life Cox was born at Mulgoa, southwest of Sydney. He was a son of Jane Maria (née Brooks) Cox and Edward Cox of Fernhill in Mulgoa. Among his siblings was Edward King Cox, who was appointed to the New South Wales Legislative Council, and Richard William Cox, a prominent sheep grazer. His father was a non-elective member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. His paternal grandparents were Rebecca (née Upjohn) Cox and William Cox, an English soldier and pioneer. His uncle was Alfred Cox, a large landowner and member of the New Zealand House of Representatives. As a child, he played with Aboriginal children and learned from them about native birds and animals. He was educated at the local parish school and the King's School, Parramatta. James Cox (labourer)
James Cox (11 October 1846, in Snodshill in Chiseldon, Wiltshire, England – 19 July 1925, in Greytown, New Zealand) was an English office worker and later a New Zealand flax worker, swagman (itinerant labourer), and agricultural worker. He is remembered because of his extensive diary. Cox was the son of a prosperous small farmer. He became a clerical assistant for the Great Western Railway Company. When in 1880 his mother sold the family farm (Cox was then 34, single, and living with his mother), he emigrated from England to New Zealand, living in Christchurch, New Zealand until 1888 and thereafter in the North Island, where he worked in a flax mill. The mill closed in 1890 and thereafter Cox lived a hand-to-mouth existence, a hard life of vagrancy, intermittent and arduous labour, and poverty. James Simon Russan (born 24 August 1986), best known as Jamie Cox, is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2007 to 2018. who held the Commonwealth light-middleweight title from 2011 to 2012. As an amateur, he won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Amateur career Cox was a standout amateur who boxed for the Walcot ABA club in Swindon. James Cox (New Jersey Politician)
James Cox (October 16, 1753 – September 12, 1810) was a member of the United States House of Representatives (from New Jersey) in the 11th Congress. He was born in Monmouth, New Jersey (now Freehold Borough) on October 16, 1753, the son of Judge Joseph and Mary (Mount) Cox. He was an officer in the American Revolutionary War at the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth, and was elected Brigadier General of the Monmouth Brigade after the war. He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 1801 to 1807 and was its speaker from 1804. He served as a Representative in the 11th United States Congress from 1809 until he died of a stroke on September 12, 1810 in Upper Freehold Township. He was buried in the Yellow Meeting House Cemetery in the Red Valley section of the township.
