James Bennett (Australian Footballer)
James Bennett (born 5 November 1964) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bennett was a Collegians footballer, who spent most of his time with Hawthorn in the reserves, due to the strength of the senior team. He played perhaps his best game, in the opening round of the 1985 VFL season, when he had 18 disposals and kicked three goals against Geelong. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. 1985 VFL Season
The 1985 VFL season was the 89th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 23 March until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The season was the first to feature premiership matches on Friday nights. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the 14th time and second time consecutively, after it defeated by 78 points in the 1985 VFL Grand Final. Greg Dear
Greg Dear (born 17 April 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn and Richmond in the VFL/AFL. A ruckman, Dear was a member of the strong Hawthorn sides of the late 1980s and a premiership player in 1986, 1988 and 1989. He could have had a fourth in 1991 but missed the entire season due to a serious knee injury. In 1994 he was traded to Richmond where he finished his career. Dear had joined the senior Hawthorn side in 1985 after impressing in the reserve grade, winning the Gardiner Medal for the league's best reserve player. The following season he was selected in the VFL Team of the Year as first ruckman and he later went on to represent Victoria at the State of Origin. Gardiner Medal

Officially named the Seconds prior to 1959 and the Reserves from 1959 onwards, the competition ran from 1919 until 1999 and the medal was first awarded in 1926. The Medal was named in honour of Frank Gardiner, a former president of the VFL Seconds. The award was voted for by the field umpires at the conclusion of each match in the same format as used in the senior grade's Brownlow Medal. As for the Brownlow Medal, ties were originally decided on a countback of who received the most "best-on-ground" votes. Collegians are an Australian rugby league football team based in Wollongong. The club are a part of Country Rugby League and compete in the Illawarra Rugby League premiership. Originally known as CBC Old Boys, the Club was founded in 1933. The Brothers Club was then admitted to the Illawarra 1st Grade competition in 1938.
