Jamaica competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018. It was Jamaica's 17th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. Swimmer Alia Atkinson was the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. Jamaica Olympic Association
Jamaica Olympic Association (IOC code: JAM) is the National Olympic Committee representing Jamaica. It is also the body responsible for Jamaica's representation at the Olympic Games. History The Jamaica Olympic Association was founded in 1936 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee in the same year. Member federations The Jamaican National Federations are the organizations that coordinate all aspects of their individual sports. They are responsible for training, competition and development of their sports. There are currently 18 Olympic Summer and 2 Winter Sport Federations and 4 Non-Olympic Sport Federations in Jamaica. Hansle Parchment
Hansle Parchment (born 17 June 1990) is a Jamaican track and field athlete, competing in the 110 metres hurdles. He is the reigning Olympic champion in the event. Parchment is an alumnus of the University of the West Indies, Kingston and won a gold medal at the 2011 Summer Universiade, running a then-personal best of 13.24 to win the title for Jamaica. In June 2012, he won the Jamaican Olympic trials in a then-personal best of 13.18 to qualify for the Jamaican team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. On 8 August 2012, Parchment won the bronze medal in the final of the 110 m hurdles. He ran a then- Jamaican record of 13.12 to clinch third place, behind Aries Merritt and Jason Richardson. Swimming At The 2018 Commonwealth Games
Swimming at the 2018 Commonwealth Games was held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in the Gold Coast, Australia from 5 to 10 April. A total of 50 events were scheduled. Of the 50, 38 were for able-bodied athletes (19 per gender). The remaining 12 were for para sport athletes (six per gender). Stephenie McPherson
Stephenie Ann McPherson (born 25 November 1988) is a Jamaican track and field athlete, who specializes in the 400 metres. She has won a bronze medal in the event at the 2013 World Championships, and then placed in the finals of both the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and all four following World Championships between 2015 and 2022, consecutively. McPherson earned also a bronze at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. She added medals in the 4 x 400 metres relays, taking a silver at the 2016 Olympics, a gold in 2015 in Beijing, and a bronze in 2019. In June 2021, McPherson went sub-50 seconds for the first time since 2013, the only year in which she had achieved it, setting her new personal best. Christine Day (born 23 August 1986) is a Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. She represented Jamaica at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the individual 400m and in the 4x400 metre relay. Day was eliminated in the semifinals of the individual 400m but she and teammates Rosemarie Whyte, Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills won bronze in the relay.
