Odisha
Odisha (English: , ), formerly Orissa ( the official name until 2011), is an Indian state located in Eastern India. It is the 8th largest state by area, and the 11th largest by population. 2009 Odisha Legislative Assembly Election
The 2009 Odisha Legislative Assembly election took place in April 2009, concurrently with the general election. The elections were held in the state in two phases. The results were declared on 16 May. Despite having recently separated from the Bharatiya Janata Party after an eleven-year partnership, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) retained power in the Odisha State Assembly with a more convincing majority. Party chief Naveen Patnaik was formally re-elected as the BJD Legislature party leader on 19 May, thus paving the way for his third consecutive term as the Chief Minister of Odisha. The Praja Socialist Party, abbreviated as PSP, was an Indian political party. It was founded when the Socialist Party, led by Jayaprakash Narayan, Rambriksh Benipuri, Acharya Narendra Deva and Basawon Singh (Sinha), merged with the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party led by J. B. Aswini Kumar Patra ( or, ଅଶ୍ୱିନୀ କୁମାର ପାତ୍ର; 9 July 1950) is an Indian politician who is active in Odisha politics. Representing the Janata Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party, Biju Janata Dal, he has served four terms as an MLA in Odisha Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the 10th, 13th and 15th Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Jaleswar constituency in 1990, 2004 and 2014 elections respectively. Jaleswar is a town located in the Balasore district of Odisha, in India. It consists of 144 villages, with four major areas: Bada Bazar, Nua Bazar, Station Bazar, and Purana Bazar. Jaleswar is considered one of the new municipalities in the state, and Jaleswar forms a state assembly constituency along with Balipal Block. Demographics According to the 2001 India census, the town of Jaleswar had a population of 21,382 inhabitants, 51% male and 49% female.
