Jahanara Begum (social Worker)
Jahanara Begum is a Bangladeshi social worker. Dubbed the Queen of Cottage Industry, she engages poor women in training and working in the cotton industry. She was awarded Independence Day Award in 1993 by the Government of Bangladesh. Background and career Begum was born to Azmat Ali. She was married to Moninul Islam Miyagi. After the wedding, she moved to Adda village of Barura Upazila. Independence Day Award
The Independence Day Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পদক), also termed Independence Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কার), Swadhinata Padak, and Swadhinata Puroskar, is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh. Introduced in 1977 by president Ziaur Rahman, this award is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organizations in recognition of substantial contribution to one of many fields, including the War of Liberation, the Language Movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, song, games and sports, fine arts, rural development, and other areas. Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour, and 500,000 Bangladeshi takas (US$5803). A cabinet committee on national awards prepares the list of each year's nominees and forwards the list to the head of the government for final approval. Barura ( bn, বরুড়া) is an Upazila of Comilla District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. History Barura Thana was formed in 1948 and turned into an Upazila in 1983. In 1995 Barura Upazila was turned into a municipality. Demographics It has 52,852 households and a total area of 241.65 sq km. According to the 1991 Bangladesh census, Barura had a population of 310,778.
