Jacob De Haan (composer)
Jacob de Haan (born March 28, 1959 in Heerenveen) is a Dutch Composer, contemporary composer known for Wind instrument, wind music. Haan has also published various vocal works, including a number of Mass (music), masses for choir, wind band and soloists. His best known pieces are ''Oregon'' and ''Ammerland''. Education De Haan majored in music education and in 1984 completed his organ studies with Jos van der Kooy at the Leeuwarden Music Academy, where he graduated in 1984. Subsequently, he lectured in music arrangement, also at the Leeuwarden Academy. Career De Haan is regularly invited as a guest Conducting, conductor for performances of his own work. Omrop Fryslân is a broadcaster on the NPO which serves the Frisian community. Because West Frisian is an official language of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the NPO is also responsible for broadcasts in the West Frisian language. The melody by Friedrich Silcher appeared already in 1843 with a different text. The song is well-known beyond churchgoers. It was translated into English as "Take Thou my hand, o Father", and into many other languages. History Julie Hausmann, a Baltic German, was influenced by Pietism. She wrote sacred poems for herself, but agreed to an anonymous publication by , entitled ''Maiblumen. Lieder einer Stillen im Lande'' (May Flowers. Song by a Quiet Country Woman.) in 1862. The term "Die Stillen im Lande" was often applied to Pietists in general, but was also appropriate for the reticent and withdrawn woman. Heerenveen
Heerenveen (, fry, It Hearrenfean ) is a town and municipality in the province of Friesland (Fryslân), in the Northern Netherlands. In 2021, the town had a population of 29,790 (1 January) while the municipality had a population 50,859 (1 July). History The town was established in 1551 by three lords as a location for the purpose of digging peat which was used for fuel, hence the name (''heer'' is "lord", ''veen'' is "peat"). Heerenveen was not one of the traditional eleven cities in Friesland (Fryslân) as it did not have so-called city rights. However, it is now one of the larger municipalities of the province.
