ASUN Conference
The ASUN Conference, formerly the Atlantic Sun Conference, is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States. The league participates at the NCAA Division I level, and began sponsoring football at the Division I FCS level in 2022. Originally established as the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) in 1978, it was renamed as the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2001, and then rebranded as the ASUN Conference in 2016. Swisher Gymnasium
Swisher Gymnasium is a 1,360-seat multi-purpose arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Built in 1953, it is currently the home to the Jacksonville University Dolphins men and women's basketball teams. Prior to the 2015–16 season, Jacksonville played its home games at both Swisher Gymnasium and the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. In addition to athletic contests, Vice President Lyndon Baines Johnson addressed students in 1963 at the gymnasium. Swisher Gymnasium was also used for several concerts including Dionne Warwick (November 9, 1967), Billy Joel (March, 1975), and K.C. and the Sunshine Band (September 7, 1979). Jacksonville Dolphins
The Jacksonville Dolphins are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent Jacksonville University, located in Jacksonville, Florida. The Dolphins participate in NCAA Division I athletics, and are primarily members of the ASUN Conference. Some teams in sports that are not sponsored by the ASUN play in other conferences; specifically, the men's and women's rowing teams are in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The men's lacrosse team had played in the Southern Conference (SoCon) from 2015 to 2022, but that sport will return to the ASUN for the 2023 season (2022–23 school year). Jacksonville University (JU) is a private university in Jacksonville, Florida. 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2016 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was played between March and April 2016, with the Final Four played April 3 & 5. The regional locations were four neutral sites: Bridgeport, Connecticut, Dallas, Lexington, Kentucky, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Final Four was played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Connecticut won their fourth consecutive national championship, defeating Syracuse 82–51. This was the last Women's Final Four to be played on the then Sunday/Tuesday schedule. Starting in 2017, the Final Four was changed to a Friday/Sunday schedule, which it used from its inception in 1982 through 1990, then again from 1996 through 2002. Tennessee continued its record streak of making every NCAA women's basketball tournament at 35 consecutive appearances.
