Jackson Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, the township population was 58,544. A portion of the township is located within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Roughly equidistant between New York City and Philadelphia, Jackson is the site of Six Flags Great Adventure, home to the Kingda Ka, which as of 2022 is the tallest roller coaster in the world. Jackson is also home to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and the Safari Off Road Adventure, which replaced Six Flags Wild Safari in 2013. Jackson is a city and county seat of Jackson County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,299 at the 2010 census. History Jackson was originally called Springfield, and under the latter name was laid out in 1856. A post office called Jackson has been in operation since 1858. On March 26 1857 the Wahpekute Dakota Chief Inkpaduta and his band attacked the settlement heading north after the Spirit Lake Massacre. There were 11 able bodied men in Springfield and three men, three children and one woman died as a result. Lost to the raiders were 12 horses, dry goods, lead and powder. The sole survivor of the Spirit Lake attack was 14 year old Abbie Gardner. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and is water. Jackson is a village in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE– SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 223 at the 2010 census. History Prior to the establishment of Jackson, the townsite of Old St. John's was settled approximately 1.5 miles north of the current site of Jackson on June 2, 1856, by a Catholic colony of sixty Irish immigrants led by Father Trecy. The colony was one of the first towns settled in Dakota County, and the first Catholic parish in Nebraska. When the rising Missouri River began to threaten the town around 1860, all of the residents of Old St. John's moved south to what is now known as Jackson. Jackson was originally called Franklin, and under the latter name was laid out in about 1860. When it was discovered there was another post office in the state with the name Franklin, the community was renamed in honor of Andrew Jackson in order to avoid repetition. Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Butts County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,045 in 2010, up from 3,934 at the 2000 census. The community was named after governor James Jackson. History Founded in 1826, Jackson began as a plot purchased for the purpose of starting the town. The plot was divided into squares and each square into lots. The first buyer of a lot in the new town was John D. Swift of Newton County, Georgia. During the Civil War, much of Jackson was razed by the army of General William T. Sherman during his March to the Sea. Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio, United States approximately 27 mi (43 km) SE of Chillicothe. The population was 6,239 at the 2020 census. History Established in 1817, residents named the town after Andrew Jackson, a hero of the War of 1812, and an eventual president of the United States. The community grew slowly, having only 297 inhabitants in 1840. In 1846, Jackson contained four churches, about seven stores, and a single newspaper office.
