John Cooper Jr. (September 15, 1922 – May 3, 2011) was an American actor and director. Known as Jackie Cooper, he began his career performing in film as a child, and successfully transitioned to adult roles and directing in both film and television. At age nine, he became the only child and youngest person nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for the 1931 film ''Skippy''. He was a featured member of the Our Gang ensemble in 1929–1931, starred in the television series '' The People's Choice'' (1955–1958) and ''Hennesey'' (1959–1962), and played journalist Perry White in the 1978–1987 Superman films. June Marlowe (born Gisela Valaria Goetten, November 6, 1903 – March 10, 1984) was an American film actress who began her career during the silent film era. She was best known for her performance of "Miss Crabtree" in the ''Our Gang'' shorts. Career Marlowe was born to German parents in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was a prolific actress in silent films during the 1920s, appearing in films opposite John Barrymore and Rin Tin Tin. She began her acting career shortly after her 1923 graduation from Hollywood High School, and was signed to a contract by Warner Brothers in 1924. In 1925, she became one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars. In 1928, she was an actress under contract with Universal Studios. Her career did well until the introduction of talkies. ''The First Seven Years'' is a 1930 ''Our Gang'' short comedy film directed by Robert F. McGowan. It was the 96th (eighth talking) ''Our Gang'' short that was released. Plot Jackie is in love with Mary Ann, but she is not interested in any boy. Speck also is in love with Mary Ann. Mary Ann, after beating up Jackie (who got aggressive after seeking advice from Kennedy the Cop), decides to play along. She suggests that Jackie and Speck fight in a duel. Jackie tries to chicken out but winds up fighting Speck. They both use real swords that damaged a tire and the radiator leaked from an old car, and cut up tons of laundry on the clothes lines. The rest of the gang roots for Jackie. In the end, they drop their swords and fight with their fists.
