Jack Witikka
Jack Witikka (20 December 1916 – 28 January 2002; surname until 1942 ''Jakobsson'') was a Finnish film director and screenwriter. He directed 15 films between 1951 and 1968. His 1961 film ''Little Presents'' was entered into the 12th Berlin International Film Festival. Life and career Witikka's father was Evert Jakobsson , the unofficial world record holder and Olympic representative, deputy judge and insurance director. Witikka studied theater in England and the United States, among other places. He began his career as an advertising manager at Paramount Films Oy and as a managing director at Parvisfilm (1946–48). In 1949, Witikka started work as a director at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet, from where he moved to the Finnish National Theatre in 1953. At the theatre Witikka served as director, financial manager, (1953–57), deputy director (1957–69) and director (1969–80). The Jussi Awards are Finland's premier film industry prizes, awarded annually to recognize the achievements of directors, actors, and writers. History The first Jussi Awards ceremony was held on 16 November 1944 at the Restaurant Adlon in Helsinki. The award is one of the oldest films awards in Europe. The original planned name for the prize was ''Aino'', but Jussi won in the end. The name comes from a character in the 1924 and 1936 Pohjalaisia films. The awards were originally organized by the ''Elokuvajournalistit'' organization, but the task was transferred in the early 1960s to the ''Filmiaura'' organization, composed of around 300 members working in the Finnish film industry. Because of the controversy surrounding the transfer, no awards were handed out in 1960 and 1961. Hietaniemi Cemetery
The Hietaniemi cemetery ( fi, Hietaniemen hautausmaa, sv, Sandudds begravningsplats) is located mainly in the Lapinlahti quarter and partly in the Etu-Töölö district of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is the location for Finnish state funeral services and is owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. The cemetery includes a large military cemetery section for soldiers from the capital fallen in the wars against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany: in the Winter War (1939–1940), the Continuation War (1941–1944) and the Lapland War (1944–1945). In the centre of the military cemetery are the tombs of the unknown soldier and Marshal C. G. E. Mannerheim. ''The Unknown Soldier'' ( fi, Tuntematon sotilas, sv, Okänd soldat) is a Finnish war film directed by Edvin Laine that premiered in December 1955. It is based on '' The Unknown Soldier'', a novel by Väinö Linna. The story is about the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union as told from the viewpoint of ordinary Finnish soldiers.
