Jack Teich Kidnapping
The 1974 kidnapping of Jack Teich in Kings Point, New York, resulted in the largest ransom being paid in the United States up to that point. The subsequent criminal cases led to financial compensation and freedom for the primary suspect. Teich was thirty-four years old when he was abducted in his driveway. After being held, bound in chains, tape, and handcuffs, in a closet in an undetermined location in the Bronx for seven days, he was released in exchange for a $750,000 ransom (nearly $4,078,500 in 2019). In 2013, this crime was listed as one of the most notorious crimes on Long Island. Kings Point is a village located on the Great Neck Peninsula in the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County, on the North Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 5,005 at the 2010 census. History The Village of Kings Point incorporated in November 1924. It is named for the King family, which owned large portions of land in the area. In criminal law, kidnapping is the unlawful confinement of a person against their will, often including transportation/asportation.
