Jack Stackpool
John Lawrence Stackpool (September 6, 1917 – August 20, 1976) was an American football fullback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1942. After playing college football for Washington, he was drafted by the Eagles in the 10th round (83rd overall) of the 1942 NFL Draft. 1942 NFL Season
The 1942 NFL season was the 23rd regular season of the National Football League. Before the season, many players left for service in World War II, thus depleting the rosters of all the teams. The Chicago Bears finished the regular season at 11–0, and faced the 10–1 Washington Redskins in the championship game. Washington, which had been beaten 73–0 in the 1940 title game, got a measure of revenge in spoiling the Bears' hope for a perfect season, winning 14–6. The 1942 National Football League Draft was held on December 22, 1941, at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago. Two members of the draft class have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Bill Dudley, the first overall selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Mac Speedie, 135th overall selection by the Detroit Lions.
