Jack Sharp
John Sharp (15 February 1878 – 28 January 1938) was an English sportsman who is most famous for his eleven-season playing career at Everton from 1899–1910. It saw him win two caps for his country, as well as being a cricketer for Lancashire County Cricket Club who played in three Test matches for the England cricket team in 1909. Life From 1899 to 1914 Sharp played cricket regularly for Lancashire and played in every match of 1904 when the Championship was won without a defeat. After World War I he played as an amateur and captained the Lancashire side from 1923 to 1925. His position on the football pitch was right winger. After being signed from Aston Villa Sharp went on to be a Championship runner-up on three occasions with Everton, scored a goal in the club's 2–1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the 1907 FA Cup Final and was an FA Cup winner one year previously against Newcastle United. Aaron John Sharp (July 29, 1904 – November 16, 1997), known professionally as Jack Sharp, was an American botanist and bryologist, considered an expert on mosses. Early life Sharp was raised on a dairy farm near East Liberty, Ohio. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University and earned his degree in botany in 1927. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Sharp was introduced to bryology by George Elwood Nichols while taking his classes at the University of Michigan Biological Station. Sharp earned his M.S. from the University of Oklahoma while studying under Paul Sears in 1929. Career In 1929, Sharp moved to Knoxville, Tennessee and began teaching at the University of Tennessee. Although he was accepted into the Ph.D program at Yale University, financial troubles led him to complete his doctorate at Ohio State University in 1938. John Reginald Sharp (20 March 1909 – 1974) was a motorcycle speedway rider from Australia. Career Sharp rode in Western Australia for Johnnie Hoskins before going to Singapore and then the United Kingdom in 1930. He joined High Beech Speedway for the 1930 Speedway Southern League season. He made his debut for the Australia national speedway team in 1930 and would go on to earn 14 international caps in total and captain the nation from 1936 to 1938. In 1931, he made a couple of appearances for Wimbledon Dons before racing mainly at the Greenford Speedway and in 1932, rode grasstrack. During the 1933 and 1934 seasons, he signed for the Plymouth Tigers, winning the 1933 West of England Championship and topping the averages for the Devon team during the 1934 Speedway National League.
