Jack Rose (cocktail)
A Jack Rose is a cocktail containing applejack, grenadine, and lemon or lime juice. It was popular in the 1920s and 1930s, notably appearing in Ernest Hemingway's 1926 classic, ''The Sun Also Rises'', in which Jake Barnes, the narrator, drinks a Jack Rose in the Crillon Paris hotel bar while awaiting the arrival of Lady Brett Ashley. It was also a favorite drink of author John Steinbeck. The Jack Rose is one of six basic drinks listed in David A. Embury's ''The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks''. History References to the Jack Rose date back to the early 20th century. A 1905 article in the National Police Gazette mentions the drink and credits a New Jersey bartender named Frank J. May as its creator. A 1913 news article mentions that sales of the drink had suffered due to the involvement of Bald Jack Rose in the Rosenthal murder case. Jack Rose (colonial Administrator)
Jack Rose, (18 January 1917 – 10 October 2009) was a British fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain who later in the Second World War pioneered the use of rockets fired from fighter-bombers. One of very few pilots to survive having been operational on both the first and last days of the war, he later became a distinguished administrator in the British Colonial Office. He was Administrator of the Cayman Islands from 1960 to 1963. Early life Born in Blackheath, London, Rose was educated at Shooters Hill School before studying science at University College London. He joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in October 1938, training as a fighter pilot. Military service Rose served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in northern France in May 1940, flying a Hawker Hurricane from No 3 Squadron's Merville airbase. He shot down three German aircraft. Jack Joseph Rose (born 31 January 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for club Hednesford Town, on loan from club Sutton United. Career West Bromwich Albion Rose started his career with West Bromwich Albion, rising through the youth system and signing his first professional contract in June 2013. Jacob Rosenzweig (September 1876 – October 4, 1947) was an American gambler and underworld figure in New York City. He was one of several star witnesses in the Becker-Rosenthal trial, among these being fellow gamblers Bridgie Webber, Harry Vallon, and Sam Schepps. Rose's testimony was the most damaging because he directly implicated Becker in arranging the murder of Herman Rosenthal. As Becker's debt collector, Rose confessed to hiring the Lenox Avenue Gang, providing the getaway car. He testified he did it all on the orders of Charles Becker. Jack Rose (February 16, 1971 – December 5, 2009) was an American guitarist originally from Virginia and later based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rose is best known for his solo acoustic guitar work. He was also a member of the noise/ drone band Pelt. Career Pelt and beyond In 1993, Jack Rose joined the noise/drone band Pelt with Michael Gangloff and Patrick Best. Then influenced by punk and rock and roll initially, the trio, sometimes joined by friends including Mikel Dimmick and Jason Bill (also of Charalambides), released their first album in 1995. Rose continued from that point as both a solo act as well as a member of Pelt, who continued to put out more than a dozen albums and a handful of minor releases primarily on the VHF Records and Eclipse labels as well as the band's own Klang imprint. Jack Rose (November 4, 1911 – October 20, 1995) was an American screenwriter and producer. He began writing gags for Milton Berle and radio lines for Bob Hope before moving to screenplays. His first was 1943's ''Road to Rio'' starring Hope and Bing Crosby. In 1955, Rose produced the Hope film ''The Seven Little Foys'', co-written and directed by his frequent collaborator Melville Shavelson. He also wrote and produced a 1962 Dean Martin romantic comedy, ''Who's Got the Action?'' For television, Rose created and wrote for the 1968–1970 situation comedy '' The Good Guys'', starring Bob Denver, Herb Edelman, and Joyce Van Patten. It ran for 42 episodes over one-and-a-half seasons.
