Jack Flaherty (other)
Jack Rafe Flaherty (born October 15, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles. Flaherty was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the 2014 MLB draft and made his MLB debut with them in 2017. Amateur career Flaherty attended Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California, where his pitching coach was current White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz. He pitched and played shortstop and third base as a member of the varsity baseball team for all four of his years at Harvard-Westlake. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In baseball, innings pitched (IP) are the number of innings a pitcher has completed, measured by the number of batters and baserunners that are put out while the pitcher is on the pitching mound in a game. Three outs made is equal to one inning pitched. One out counts as one-third of an inning, and two outs counts as two-thirds of an inning. Bishop Alemany High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school located in the San Fernando Valley community of Mission Hills in Los Angeles, California.
