John Edgar Courtney
John Edgar Courtney (born 1934) is an Australian farmer and amateur ornithologist. He helped put together the first ''Field Guide to Australian Birdsong'', produced by the Bird Observation & Conservation Australia, Bird Observers Club of Australia. He joined the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU) in 1959 and was the RAOU's New England (Australia), New England regional representative 1971–1978. In 1999 he was awarded the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union, RAOU's John Hobbs Medal for outstanding contributions to Australian ornithology as an amateur. John Mortimer Courtney
John Mortimer Courtney, (July 22, 1838 – October 8, 1920) was a Canadian civil servant. Born in Penzance, England, the second son of John Sampson Courtney and Sarah Mortimer, Courtney worked at Mount's Bay Bank in Penzance, then to India with the Agra Bank in Calcutta and in New South Wales, Australia and finally with Royal Bank of India. In 1869, he joined the Public Service of Canada working under John Langton as a chief clerk and assistant secretary to the Treasury Board. In 1878, he was promoted to deputy minister and ex officio deputy receiver general and secretary to the Treasury Board. He retired in 1906. His brother Leonard Courtney, 1st Baron Courtney of Penwith, was a British politician and man of letters. Bodmin (UK Parliament Constituency)
Bodmin was the name of a parliamentary constituency in Cornwall from 1295 until 1983. Initially, it was a parliamentary borough, which returned two Members of Parliament to the House of Commons of England and later the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom until the 1868 general election, when its representation was reduced to one member. The old borough was abolished with effect from the 1885 general election, but the name was transferred to a county constituency, which elected a single member until the constituency was abolished with effect from the 1983 general election, when the area it then covered was divided between the existing North Cornwall and the new Cornwall South East. John Courtney (diarist)
John Courtney (1734–1806) was an English diarist, lawyer and property owner. He attended Trinity College, Cambridge, where received legal training, and inherited lands and properties in and around Beverley, Yorkshire, where he lived and served in the local militia. He kept diaries from 1759 to his death. Life and career Courtney was born in Beverley. His father, also John (1679–1756), the son of a London stonemason, worked for the East India Company and became Governor of Surat. His mother was Elizabeth Bourdenand (née Featherstone), daughter of Thomas Featherstone of Beverley. His parents were married in 1732. Courtney studied at Beverley Grammar School under the Revd John Clarke, who moved to Wakefield School in 1751, taking Courtney with him. John David Courtney (1901-1948) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1920s and 1930s. Life and career Born at St. Leonards, New South Wales in 1901, Courtney played his entire career at North Sydney. He played with them for seven seasons between 1924-1931 and was a prolific point scorer for the club. He became the NSWRFL top point scorer in 1924 and 1926. Jon Courtney
Jon Courtney is a British singer, guitarist, and keyboard player, of the rock band Pure Reason Revolution. He was also the sole songwriter (except " The Bright Ambassadors of Morning" credited to Courtney/Jong) on their first two albums. Outside of Pure Reason Revolution, Courtney is involved in the DJ set All Bangers No Mash under the pseudonym "Cedo Simplex", and is one member of the duo KC Blitz. Jonathan Courtney
Jonathan Courtney (born July 16, 1966) is an American politician from Maine. Courtney served as a Republican State Senator from Maine's 3rd District, representing part of York County, Maine, York County including Sanford, Maine, Sanford and his home in Springvale, Maine, Springvale. He was first elected in 2002 to the Maine House of Representatives and served one term. He was elected to the Maine Senate in 2004 was unable to run for re-election due to term limits in 2012. He was the Republican Party's Majority Leader in the State Senate. Courtney grew up in Wells, Maine and graduated from Marshwood High School in South Berwick, Maine. In April 2012, after qualifying to run for the Republican nomination, Courtney officially announced his campaign. He won the primary, and faced incumbent Democrat Chellie Pingree in the November 2012 election. He was easily defeated by Pingree in the general election. References
