Jack (2015 Film)
''Jack'' is a 2015 Austrian thriller film about serial killer Jack Unterweger, directed by Elisabeth Scharang. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Plot Jack Unterweger, who grew up in a red-light district and who was previously known to the police for petty theft, is arrested for the murder of a woman, found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. While incarcerated, he begins to write, which attracts a following of several intellectuals. After about 15 years, he is granted parole, in great part due to the advocacy of his famous supporters. He soon becomes a heartthrob present at events, and a guest in television programs. He writes his first successful novel. He appears to be the model of rehabilitation after prison. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Jack Unterweger
Johann "Jack" Unterweger (16 August 1950 – 29 June 1994) was an Austrian serial killer who committed murder in several countries – Austria, West Germany, Czechoslovakia, and the United States. Initially convicted in 1974 of a single murder, Unterweger began to write extensively while in prison. His work gained the attention of the Austrian literary elite, who took it as evidence that he had been rehabilitated. After significant lobbying, Unterweger was released on parole in 1990. Upon his release, he became a minor celebrity and worked as a playwright and journalist, but within months he resumed killing women. Unterweger hanged himself in prison after being convicted of nine more murders in June 1994. 2015 Toronto International Film Festival
The 40th annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 10 to 20 September 2015. On 28 July 2015 the first wave of films to be screened at the Festival was announced. Jean-Marc Vallée's ''Demolition'' starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts was the opening night film; '' Mr. Right'' by Paco Cabezas was the closing night film. The year's edition included two new sections called Platform and Primetime. At Platform, twelve films will be screened in front of a jury, with the best film of the program winning the C$25,000 Platform Prize. Film directors Claire Denis, Jia Zhangke, and Agnieszka Holland were selected as the jurors for this section. At Primetime, six high-quality television programs will be presented at public screenings with Question and Answer sessions with show creators. Corinna Harfouch (; née Meffert; 16 October 1954) is a German actress. Life and work Harfouch was born in Suhl, East Germany, the daughter of the teacher Wolfgang Meffert and his wife Marianne (née Kleber). Birgit Minichmayr (born 3 April 1977) is an Austrian actress born in Linz, Austria. She studied drama at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. For her work in Maren Ade's film Everyone Else she won Silver Bear for Best Actress at 59th Berlin International Film Festival. Valerie Pachner (born 26 June 1987) is an Austrian actress. Life and work Valerie Pachner grew up in Bad Schallerbach, Austria, and studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 2009 to 2013.
