Jaap Van Dorp
Jaap van Dorp (born 25 February 1990 in Benthuizen) is a Dutch curling, curler from Waddinxveen. He currently plays Second (curling), second on the Dutch men's curling team skipped by Wouter Gösgens. Career Juniors Van Dorp represented the Netherlands in five European Junior Curling Challenges (2007 to 2011 inclusive), skip (curling), skipping the Dutch team in four (all but 2010). The team's best performance during this time was a 5th-place finish in 2010, when van Dorp threw third (curling), third rocks for the team, which was skipped by Carlo Glasbergen. Benthuizen
Benthuizen is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn and lies about 1 km east of Zoetermeer. History Benthuizen was described between 1280 and 1287. Benthuizen developed as a peat excavation settlement in the Late Middle Ages. The Dutch Reformed church is a T-shaped aisleless church which was built between 1796 and 1797. The tower dates from 1672. The church was restored and extended on the north side between 1937 and 1938. Until 1991 Benthuizen was an independent municipality in that year the municipality became part of the larger municipality ''Rijneveld''. In 1993 the name was changed to Rijnwoude, and in 2014 it became part of Alphen aan den Rijn. The HSL-Zuid being constructed passes Benthuizen on the eastern side. European Curling Championships
The European Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments held in Europe between various European nations. The European Curling Championships are usually held in early to mid December. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the World Championships, where the top eight nations qualify. In November 1974, a six-nations tournament was held in Zürich, Switzerland which included Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway. In March 1975, it was decided that the championships would be competed in December. Curling At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Qualification Event
The Olympic qualifying event was held from 5–10 December 2017 in Plzeň, Czech Republic. The qualification event was open to any nations that earned qualification points at the 2016 or 2017 World Curling Championships or participated at the 2014 or 2015 World Curling Championships (the Czech men's team, the Norway & the Latvia women's team). The top two teams from the qualification event qualified their nations to participate in the Olympics. 2017 Ford World Men's Curling Championship
The 2017 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2017 for sponsorship reasons) was a curling event that was held from April 1 to 9 at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada won the title for the 36th time overall and the second consecutive year. Like Rachel Homan's team at the women's tournament, Brad Gushue and his teammates finished with a perfect 13–0 record, which included defeating eventual runner-up Niklas Edin of Sweden three times. Switzerland won the bronze medal. With the win, Gushue became the first skip in the history of the sport to win the world junior title, the Olympic gold medal, and the world men's title, and Canada became the first country ever to be in simultaneous possession of Olympic and World championships in both men's and women's curling. The 2014 European Curling Championships were held November 22 to 29 at the Palladium de Champéry in Champéry, Switzerland. Switzerland last hosted the European Curling Championships in 2010, when it was also held in Champéry.
