J. W. Bolts
John William Bolts (1861–1921) was a state legislator in South Carolina. He was elected in 1898 and 1900 from Georgetown, South Carolina and served in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Bolts was the last African American to serve in the South Carolina House of Representatives for seven decades that followed. Bolts succeeded Robert B. Anderson Robert Bernard Anderson (June 4, 1910 August 14, 1989) was an American administrator, politician, and businessman. The South Carolina House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Carolina General Assembly. It consists of 124 representatives elected to two-year terms at the same time as U.S. congressional elections. Unlike many legislatures, seating on the floor is not divided by party, but is arranged by county delegation – a legacy of the original apportionment of the chamber. Benedict College is a private historically black college in Columbia, South Carolina. Founded in 1870 by northern Baptists, it was originally a teachers' college. It has since expanded to offer majors in many disciplines across the liberal arts.
