Joseph Mark Spalding, Doctor of Divinity, D.D., J.C.L. (born January 13, 1965) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He has been serving as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville, Diocese of Nashville in Tennessee since 2017. Biography Early life Joseph Spalding was born on January 13, 1965, in Lebanon, Kentucky and grew up on the family farm in Washington County, Kentucky, Washington County, Kentucky. His family has roots in the earliest Catholic presence west of the Appalachian Mountains. His ancestors include Archbishop Martin John Spalding, Martin Spalding, John Lancaster Spalding and Mother Catherine Spalding. Spalding graduated from Bethlehem High School (Kentucky), Bethlehem High School in Bardstown, Kentucky in 1983; and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana, in 1987. Excellency
Excellency is an honorific style given to certain high-level officers of a sovereign state, officials of an international organization, or members of an aristocracy. Once entitled to the title "Excellency", the holder usually retains the right to that courtesy throughout their lifetime, although in some cases the title is attached to a particular office, and is held only for the duration of that office. Generally people addressed as ''Excellency'' are heads of state, heads of government, governors, ambassadors, Roman Catholic bishops and high-ranking ecclesiastics and others holding equivalent rank (e.g., heads of international organizations).
