He emigrated to Sydney around 1831 and was educated at Sydney College, which later became the University of Sydney, then for several years was employed by his uncles as supercargo on their vessels, which traded around Australia and nearby islands, and in that capacity first visited Adelaide on 20 October 1839, in the barque ''Strath Isla'' with a cargo of Timor Ponies. Free Trade
Free trade is a trade policy that does not restrict imports or exports. It can also be understood as the free market idea applied to international trade. In government, free trade is predominantly advocated by political parties that hold economically liberal positions, while economic nationalist and left-wing political parties generally support protectionism, the opposite of free trade. The history of the Jews in England goes back to the reign of William the Conqueror. Although it is likely that there had been some Jewish presence in the Roman period, there is no definitive evidence, and no reason to suppose that there was any community during Anglo-Saxon times. The first written record of Jewish settlement in England dates from 1070. The Jewish settlement continued until King Edward I's Edict of Expulsion in 1290. After the expulsion, there was no overt Jewish community (as opposed to individuals practising Judaism secretly) until the rule of Oliver Cromwell. While Cromwell never officially readmitted Jews to the Commonwealth of England, a small colony of Sephardic Jews living in London was identified in 1656 and allowed to remain. Adolph Bartels
Adolph Heinrich Friedrich Bartels (29 July 1819 – 9 November 1878) was a German-born Australian politician. He was Mayor of Adelaide 1871–1873. History Bartels was born in Gilten, Hannover. He grew up in humble circumstances, and trained as a cigarmaker in Hamburg. In Breslau he met Joseph Ernst Seppelt, with whom he travelled to Adelaide via Melbourne around 1845, and for a year worked as a labourer for Seppelt's son Bruno who was experimenting with tobacco and other crops at Seppeltsfield. :He must have returned to Germany around 1847, as it is recorded that Adolph Bartels and his sister Sophie Maria Johanne Henriette (or Maria Sophia Johanne) Bartels arrived in South Australia in April 1848 aboard ''President Smidt'' from Bremen with their parents Adolph Johann Cord Bartels (c. 1793 – 1 June 1863) and his wife Wilhelmine C. Henry Robert Fuller
Henry Robert Fuller (22 January 1825 – 27 August 1905) was a businessman in South Australia, Mayor of Adelaide from 1866 to 1869 and a member of both houses of the South Australian parliament. History Fuller was born in Cambridge Heath, London the eldest son of H. P. Fuller, a surgeon of Hackney Road, London. He was educated at E. Duke's academy, "Belle Vue", at Ball's Pond, near Highbury, then at Mr. Burn's school, Kennington Common. He was employed as the second officer on several P. & O. steamships. He left the company at Port Adelaide in 1845, and worked as a carter, carrying goods between the port and Adelaide city. In 1856 he and partners Henry Hill and George Mills won the contract to manage rail freight between the port and the city. Richmond is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area.
