J. Karjalainen
Jukka Tapio "J." Karjalainen (born 1 April 1957) is a Finnish singer-songwriter. His first album came out in 1981 and he has been called the "Bruce Springsteen of Finland." He states that his music is a mix of "Blues, Rock´n´roll, Folk, Country, Soul, Funky, New Orleans stuff." He also listened to old-time musicians like Tommy Jarrell and Clarence Ashley while learning the 5-string banjo. Olli Haavisto
Olli Haavisto (born 30 May 1954, Pori, Finland) is a Finnish musician best known for playing the pedal steel guitar and the guitar. He is one of the most respected pedal steel guitarists in Finland, and he has worked as a session musician for numerous Finnish artists. He has played on ca. 1 850 songs on ca. 600 albums. He has also acted as producer on ca 50 albums. In addition to this, he has played ca. 5 000 gigs. Studies Haavisto studied the flute in the Espoo Music Institute during 1968–73. He also studied musicology and the English language at Helsinki University for five years in the 1970s. Career as a musician Haavisto's first band was Vanha Isäntä, founded in 1973, which the same year won the Finnish championship of pop bands, playing an entirely acoustic set, mainly traditional songs from the British Isles. Clarence "Tom" Ashley (September 29, 1895 – June 2, 1967) was an American musician and singer, who played the clawhammer banjo and the guitar. He began performing at medicine shows in the Appalachia, Southern Appalachian region as early as 1911, and gained initial fame during the late 1920s as both a solo recording artist and as a member of various String band (American music), string bands. Janne Pekka Haavisto (born 28 November 1964 in Espoo, Finland) is a Finnish drummer, recording engineer and record producer. He has been a professional musician since the age of 16, that is, from 1983 on. Career as a musician In his youth, Haavisto attended the Sibelius High School in Helsinki and played drums in a band called Bablers together with e.g. Sam Yaffa and Arto Tamminen. The band made a record called ''Whats all about'' in 1980. At the age of 16 Haavisto was given, with the aid of his older brother Olli Haavisto, a job as a drummer for J. Thomas Jefferson Jarrell (March 1, 1901 – January 28, 1985) was an American fiddler, banjo player, and singer from the Mount Airy region of North Carolina's Appalachian Mountains.
