J.J. Jeffrey
J.J. Jeffrey (born Joseph Noyes Jeffrey, Jr. on 29 May 1940 in Portland, Maine.) is an American radio executive and a former prominent Top 40 disc jockey. His work aired on United States' rock-and-roll stations during the 1960s and 1970s. Jeffrey's broadcasting career began in Maine with the help of such broadcasters as Frank Fixaris in the 1950s. By the mid-1960s he was a personality (under the name "Melvin X. Melvin") on Boston, Massachusetts, Boston's Top 40 rocker, WMEX (AM), WMEX. After a stint as operations manager (and on-air personality) at WNVY in Pensacola, Florida, he returned to Boston in March 1967 as the afternoon-drive personality for WRKO, which — as ''NOW Radio'' and, later, ''The Big 68'' — dominated New England's teen market in the late 1960s. WOKQ (97.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format for the Manchester- Nashua-Concord and Dover-Rochester-Portsmouth, New Hampshire areas. The transmitter is located in Barrington, New Hampshire with the station's city of license being Dover, New Hampshire. The studios are located in Dover. WOKQ also operates a simulcast on W250AB on 97.9, a translator that fills in signal holes in downtown Manchester. It brands itself as "The Big 97.5". WOKQ is owned by Townsquare Media. Portland Pirates
The Portland Pirates were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL). Their home arena was the Cross Insurance Arena in downtown Portland, Maine. The franchise was previously known as the Baltimore Skipjacks from 1982 to 1993. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. WLOB (1310 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Portland, Maine. The station is owned by Atlantic Coast Radio and airs a Talk radio format. The studios and transmitter are on Warren Avenue in Portland. WLOB operates at 5000 watts using a directional antenna to protect other stations on its frequency.
