Izu No Odoriko (1974 Film)
is a 1974 romantic drama film from Japan. It was directed by Katsumi Nishikawa and starred Momoe Yamaguchi and Tomokazu Miura. This was the first of a series of romantic films starring the couple. The film is based on the story ''The Dancing Girl of Izu'' by Yasunari Kawabata. Katsumi Nishikawa
(1 July 1918 – 6 April 2010) was a Japanese film director most famous for his youth films (seishun eiga). Graduating from Nihon University, he started out at the Shochiku studio in 1939 and directed his first film in 1952. He moved to Nikkatsu in 1954 and, while working in a variety of genres, became most famous for his youth films starring Sayuri Yoshinaga, Yujiro Ishihara, and Hideki Takahashi. In the 1970s, he remade some of these films with the idol singer Momoe Yamaguchi and her future husband Tomokazu Miura. The Katsumi Nishikawa Memorial Film Museum was opened in his hometown of Chizu, Tottori, in 2001. Nishikawa published several books, including one about his war experience and another about filming Yasunari Kawabata's ''The Dancing Girl of Izu'' several times. He died of pneumonia on April 6, 2010. Mitsuo Hamada
is a Japanese actor. He co-starred with Sayuri Yoshinaga in many Nikkatsu films. In 1960, Hamada joined Nikkatsu Company. He won his first major award at the Elan d'or Awards in 1961. In 1966, Hamada was involved in the quarrel at the bar in Nagoya and came close to losing an eye. The incident hindered his acting career. Hamada appeared in the ''Tokusatsu'' superhero series ''Ultraman Gaia'' in 1999. Sayuri Yoshinaga
is a Japanese actress and activist. She has won four Japan Academy Best Actress awards, more than any other actress, and has been called "one of the foremost stars in the postwar world of film." is a Japanese actor. Born in Kisarazu, Chiba near Tokyo, he attended Ichikawa Gakuen and later Nihon University. Career Takahashi made his debut with Nikkatsu and acted in youth-oriented films. Takahashi made film debut with ''Kōgenji'' directed by Buichi Saitō in 1961. In 1963, he starred in the yakuza film ''The Symbol of a Man '' directed by Akinori Matsuo and won populality.
