Izgak De Jager
Izgak De Jager (born 1963/1964) is a South African politician who served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the Al Jama-ah party from May 2019 until October 2019. Political career De Jager was the Al Jama-ah party's Western Cape premier candidate in the 2019 provincial election. The party won one seat in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in the May election and De Jager then took up the seat. In October 2019, De Jager was removed as the party's representative in the provincial parliament and replaced with Galil Brinkhuis Galil Brinkhuis is a South African politician. Al Jama-ah
Al Jama-ah (, ) is a South African political party. It was formed in 2007 by present leader Ganief Hendricks and contested the 2009, 2014 and 2019 national elections. The party aims to support Muslim interests and uphold Shari'a law. The flag of Al Jama-ah depicts a white gim (, the first letter in its Arabic name), upon a field consisting of the other Islamic colours. History Until 2019, the party had no elected representatives nationally or provincially although it came close in both the 2009 and 2014 elections, and won 9 seats at the local level in the 2016 municipal elections. 2019 Western Cape Provincial Election
The 2019 Western Cape provincial election was held on 8 May 2019 to elect the 6th Western Cape Provincial Parliament. It was the sixth provincial election held since the establishment of the provincial legislature in 1994. Incumbent Premier Helen Zille of the Democratic Alliance (DA) was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. The party nominated Alan Winde to succeed her. The provincial election was won by the ruling Democratic Alliance (DA), but with a reduced majority of 55.45%, down from 59.38% in the 2014 election. The party lost two seats and achieved a majority of 24 seats in the legislature. The Official Opposition African National Congress (ANC) declined from 32.89% to 28.64%, and also lost two seats. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) significantly grew, going from 2.11% to 4.04%, and, consequently, gained one seat. The newly-formed Good received 3.11% of the vote and won a seat. Western Cape Provincial Parliament
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) is the legislature of the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is located at 7 Wale Street in Cape Town. The Provincial Parliament, along with the other provincial legislatures of South Africa, exists by virtue of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of South Africa and Chapter 3 of the Constitution of the Western Cape. It is unicameral, and consists of 42 members elected by a system of party-list proportional representation. The Western Cape is unique amongst the provinces of South Africa in calling its legislature the "Provincial Parliament" and the members Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Galil Brinkhuis
Galil Brinkhuis is a South African politician. He is the sole representative of Al Jama-ah in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Brinkhuis was placed 4th on Al Jama-ah's provincial list and 12th on the party's national list for the 2019 general elections. In October 2019, Brinkhuis was sworn in as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. This followed the cessation of Izgak De Jager's membership. Brinkhuis serves on the Budget Committee, the Standing Committee on Education, and the Standing Committee on Community Safety, Cultural Affairs and Sport.
