Izaskun Bilbao Barandica
Izaskun Bilbao Barandica (born 27 March 1961 in Bermeo) is a politician from the Basque Country, a region in Spain. She was the President of the Basque Parliament from 2005 to 2009, being the first woman to hold the position. She has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2009. She is affiliated with the Basque National Party, which belongs to the European Democratic Party, and sits in the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament. Bermeo
Bermeo is a town and municipality in the ''comarca'' of Busturialdea. It is in the province of Biscay, which is part of the autonomous region of the Basque Country in northern Spain. With a population of 16,765, it is the most important fishing port in the Basque Country. The town was founded in 1236, and is the largest in Busturialdea. Bermeo was the provincial capital of Biscay from 1476 to 1602. Tourist attractions include the island of Gaztelugatxe, the Ercilla Tower (a fishing museum), San Juan Gate and the port. 2009 Basque Regional Election
The 2009 Basque regional election was held on Sunday, 1 March 2009, to elect the 9th Parliament of the Basque Autonomous Community. All 75 seats in the Parliament were up for election. The election was held simultaneously with a regional election in Galicia. It would be the first time that the elections for two of the Spanish "historical regions"—namely, those comprising Andalusia, Catalonia, Galicia and the Basque Country itself—were held simultaneously. This would evolve into an unwritten convention in subsequent years, with Basque and Galician elections being held concurrently in 2012, 2016 and 2020. Luis Garicano Gabilondo (born 1967 in Valladolid) is a Spanish economist and politician who was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Spain since 2019. He was also vice president of Renew Europe and vice president of the European political party Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE Party). The 2009 European Parliament election was held in the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) between 4 and 7 June 2009. Arantza Quiroga Cía
Arantza Quiroga Cía (Irún, 26 July 1973) is a Spanish politician. She was President of the Basque Parliament between 2009 and 2012, an office commonly known in the Anglophone world by the name of "Speaker of the Parliament". Mrs. Quiroga, who has a degree in Law, is a member of the conservative People's Party (PP) and was the leader of the Basque branch of the party until she resigned in 2015. Born to a father from Valladolid and a Basque mother, she grew up in Irún. She became a member of the Spain-wide People's Party youth movement Nuevas Generaciones at 21 and was elected a local councillor for Irún on the party list.
