Ixtapa Municipality is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas in southern Mexico. As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 24,517, up from 18,533 as of 2005. It covers an area of 313 km2. As of 2010, the town of Ixtapa had a population of 6,086. Chiapas is a state in Southwest Mexico. According to the 2020 Mexican Census, it has the eighth largest population of all states with inhabitants and the 10th largest by land area spanning . Aztlán (Rancho Nuevo), Chiapas
“Aztlán” (from nah, Astlan, ) is the ancestral home of the Aztec peoples. '' Astekah'' is the Nahuatl word for "people from Aztlan". Aztlan is mentioned in several ethnohistorical sources dating from the colonial period, and while they each cite varying lists of the different tribal groups who participated in the migration from Aztlan to central Mexico, the Mexica who went on to found Mexico-Tenochtitlan are mentioned in all of the accounts.
