Iversen () is a Danish-Norwegian patronymic surname meaning "son of ''Iver''", from the Old Norse personal name ''Ívarr''. Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Sverre Iversen
Sverre Johan Iversen (6 November 1879 – 20 October 1967) was Norwegian trade unionist, civil servant and politician for the Labour and Social Democratic Labour parties. He was born in Kristiania as a son of mason Gustav Wilhelm Iversen (1859–1898) and Augusta Josefine Andersen (1858–1921). He attended the Royal School of Drawing from 1897 to 1898, but became a mason's apprentice after his father died. At the same time he had higher ambitions. To work his way upwards in society, he studied economics on his own, took voice classes from an actress to be a better orator, and was active in his trade union. Steffen Iversen (born 10 November 1976) is a Norwegian footballer who is player-manager for Norwegian 4th division side Trygg/Lade as a striker. He is the son of former Norway international Odd Iversen, one of Norway's most prolific goalscorers of all time. Iversen began his career as an 18-year-old at Rosenborg where he won two consecutive Norwegian league championships. He moved to Tottenham Hotspur in December 1996, where he scored 54 goals in seven years, and won the League Cup. After a brief spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, he moved back to his native Norway where he spent two years at Vålerenga and was a contributing factor to Vålerenga's first league championship in 21 years. Odd "Ivers" Iversen (6 November 1945 – 29 December 2014) was a Norwegian footballer who played as a striker; he is notable for his former record of 158 goals in Norwegian top tier football, as well as his still-standing record of 30 goals in a single season. Career Iversen began his career in Rosenborg in 1964, and would spend twelve of his eighteen years as a top tier footballer in the club. He is often regarded as one of the greatest Norwegian footballers ever, and was the top goalscorer four times in the Norwegian top division (1967, 1968, 1969 and 1979). Upon retirement in 1982, he became the first Norwegian player in history to get a testimonial match by his club (Rosenborg). Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He was part of the Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Kristen "Kræsten" Iversen (, 26 January 1886 - 9 August 1955) was a Danish artist who is remembered both for his paintings and his painted glass windows. He was a member of the Bornholm school of painters and a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts . Biography Iversen was born in the parish of Holsted in Vejen Municipality, Denmark. Leif Iversen (13 December 1911 – 18 May 1989) was a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. Hailing from Raudeberg, Leif Iversen was a tax clerk before becoming mayor of Nord-Vågsøy in 1937. Julius Gottlieb Iversen (russian: Юлий Богданович Иверсен, translit=Julij Bogdanovič Iversen; in Reval – in St. Petersburg) was a Russian phalerist (scholar of medals). Iversen, of Baltic German ethnicity, was born in Reval on April 5, 1823. He studied at Imperial University of Dorpat from 1842 to 1846. In 1850 he received the title of Candidate of Philosophy (equivalent to a modern Western Ph.D.) and in that same year arrived in St. Petersburg.
