Latvian ( ), also known as Lettish, is an Eastern Baltic language belonging to the Baltic branch of the Indo-European language family, spoken in the Baltic region. Ivars Godmanis
Ivars Godmanis (born 27 November 1951) is a Latvian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Latvia from 1990 to 1993 and again from 2007 to 2009. He was the first Prime Minister of Latvia after the country restored its independence from the Soviet Union. Political career Godmanis served as Prime Minister from 1990 to 1993, focusing primarily on Latvia's difficult economic transition from planned to market economy. In 1995 Godmanis was awarded with the Order of the Three Stars. He later served as the Minister of Finance from 1998 to 1999. He was originally associated with the Latvian Popular Front, but after the Front ceased to exist he moved to the Latvian Way party. In November 2006, following elections in which the Latvian Way in coalition with Latvia's First Party returned to Parliament, Godmanis became the Minister of the Interior. Ivars Hirss
Ivars Hirss (1931–1989) was a Latvian-born American painter. Life and work Hirss was born in Riga, into an extremely wealthy Latvian family. Contrary to his father's wishes that he become a businessman, Hirss pursued a career in art. He eventually moved to San Francisco, where, by the early 1960s he had made a name for himself in graphics, as well as within the greater San Francisco art community. He had several successful exhibits, including one at the Triangle Gallery (San Francisco) in 1962 and another in 1967 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work often included a bright primary color upon which other colors were then superimposed. It also often included Latvian decoration or ornament. Hirss died in 1989 from complications related to alcoholism. With the revival of modernist aesthetics, Hirss' art has received renewed interest from scholars. Ivars Edmunds Kalniņš (born 1 August 1948) is a Latvian film and television actor. He graduated in 1974 from the Jāzeps Vītols Theatre Department of the Latvian Conservatory. Ivars Timermanis (born February 4, 1982) is a retired Latvian professional basketball player who played the Small forward position. Pro career He was a member of the Latvian national basketball team. He has played in various teams in Latvia and Germany, such as BK Ventspils, Barons LMT and Eisbären Bremerhaven in German Basketball Bundesliga. After playing half of the 2010-11 season with BC Rakvere Tarvas, he joined Ukrainian club BC Cherkasy the next season.
