Ivar Orgland
Carl Ivar Orgland (13 October 1921 – 16 June 1994) was a Norwegian philologist, lexicographer, translator and poet. He is especially known for his work with Icelandic culture, and language and literature. Academic career He was born in Oslo, finished his secondary education in 1939, and graduated with a Cand.mag. degree in 1946 and a Cand.philol. degree in 1949. From 1950 onwards, he worked at the University of Iceland as a research fellow until 1952 and then lecturer in the Norwegian language. He left the University of Iceland in 1960, and after two years as a high school teacher in Notodden, he became a lecturer in Norwegian at Lund University from 1962 to 1969. In 1969, he also received a Dr.philos.degree. The doctorate, on the subject of Stefán frá Hvítadal, was taken at the University of Iceland, and Orgland was the first foreigner to do so. Culture Of Iceland
The culture of Iceland is rich and varied as well as being known for its literary heritage which began in the 12th century. Icelandic traditional arts include weaving, silversmithing, and wood carving. The Reykjavík area has several professional theaters, a symphony orchestra, an opera and many art galleries, bookstores, cinemas and museums. There are four active folk dance ensembles in Iceland. Iceland's literacy rate is among the highest in the world, and a love of literature, art, chess, and other intellectual pursuits is widespread. Arts Architecture Icelandic architecture draws from Scandinavia and traditionally was influenced by the lack of native trees on the island. As a result, grass and turf-covered houses were developed. Asker ( no, Asker), properly called Askerbygda in Norwegian, is a district and former Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Akershus, Norway. The Order of the Falcon ( is, Hin íslenska fálkaorða) is the only order of chivalry in Iceland, founded by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland on 3 July 1921. The award is awarded for merit for Iceland and humanity and has five degrees. Nowadays, appointments are made on the nomination of the President of Iceland and that of a "five-member council." A tenor is a type of classical music, classical male singing human voice, voice whose vocal range lies between the countertenor and baritone voice types. It is the highest male chest voice type.
