Ivar Bentsen
Ivar Bentsen (13 November 1876 – 21 May 1943) was a Danish architect and educator. He was a central figure in the Bedre-Byggeskik movement and succeeded Carl Petersen as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts's School of Architecture in 1923. He was awarded the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1943. Early life and education Bentsen was born in Vallekilde, Odsherred, Denmark to Andreas Bentsen (1839–1914) and Emilie S. F. Lavigne (1851–88). His father established a school for master builders at Vallekilde Folk High School. Bentsen completed a carpenter's apprenticeship in 1896 and matriculated from Copenhagen Technical School in 1899. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1900 to 1902 but received most of his training as an architect, draughtsman, and pupil at Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint's practice. Kai Nielsen (sculptor)
Kai Nielsen (26 November 1882 – 2 November 1924) was a Danish sculptor. Biography Early life and education Kai Nielsen was born on 26 November 1882 in Svendborg, the son of Christian Nielsen, a watchmaker, and his wife Ane Marie. At 15 he became an apprentice painter but was artistically inclined and began to paint landscapes and portraits. At the same time he studied at the technical school in Svendborg where he was taught moulding by Edvard Eriksen, later famous for creating The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. In 1901 he moved to Copenhagen and took drawing classes to prepare for the Art Academy. When he applied, they rejected his drawings but accepted him into the Sculpture School in view of a portrait bust he had made in Svendborg, and he became a student of Carl Aarsleff. Vesterbygaard
Vesterbygaard is a manor house and estate situated north of Tissø, Kalundborg Municipality, some 70 km west of Copenhagen, Denmark. The three-winged main building was constructed for Christen Andreas Fonnesbech in the 1840s. The estate is still owned by his descendents. The estate covers 327 hectares of farmland. History Early history Vesterbygaard was most likely originally part of the village of the village Jorløse. In the Middle Ages, it belonged to members of the Munk family. Little is known about the history of the estate. It was for a while owned by the Bishops of Roskilde but had by the late 15th century passed into the ownership of Hans Navl. He was buried in Sorø Abbey Church, where his and his wife's ledgerstone can still be seen. Vesterbygaard was only a small manorm that rarely served as the seat of its owner, and it may on and off only have had status of a tenant farm. Torbenfeldt
Torbenfeldt Castle is a manor house located 15 km south-west of Holbæk on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. The estate covers 1,711 hectares of land (2000). History The origin of the name Torbenfeldt is unclear but it may refer to Torben Nielsen (died 1310) who was married to a sister of Marsk Stig's first wife. Torbensfeldt is first mentioned in 1377. Early owners include members of the noble Moltke, Gøye and Brahe families. In 1668 the estate was acquired by King Frederick III who renamed it Frydendal. The king died in 1670 and his son Prince George ceded the estate to Christoffer Parsberg in exchange for Jungshoved at Vordingborg in 1671. An important figure in the central administration, Parsberg was created count that same year. However, he died just a few months later and the property was then owned by different noble families before being acquired by Christian Rosenkilde Treschow in 1873. Odsherred
Odsherred is a peninsula in the north-western part of the island Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark. Odsherred stretches from the Sjællands Odde in the north-west to the now drained Lammefjord in the south, covering an area with a wide range of the most typical Danish landscapes: long sandy beaches, small rolling hills and farming. The peninsula is served by the railway Odsherredsbanen, which runs through the most important towns, including Nykøbing Sjælland, Asnæs and Hørve. Hellerup
Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most urban part of the district is centred on Strandvejen and is bordered by Østerbro to the south and the Øresund to the east. It comprises Tuborg Havn, the redeveloped brewery site of Tuborg Breweries, with the Waterfront Shopping Center, a marina and the headquarters of several large companies. Other parts of the district consist of single family detached homes. Local landmarks include the science centre Experimentarium and the art Øregaard Museum. Tisvildeleje
Tisvildeleje is the village and coastal part of the area known as Tisvilde located on the north coast of the island Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark 60 km/40miles north of Copenhagen in Region Hovedstaden. To the West, Tisvildeleje is bordered by the protected plantation of Tisvilde Hegn egn=fence which is Denmark’s fifth largest forest. The beaches of Tisvildeleje, are known for their white sands and soft dunes. The beach uses large boulders as rock armour and groynes for sea defense in most places. A sea wall also protects a stretch of the coast. Etymology The name "Tisvilde" is derived from "Ti's vælde", meaning ''a place dedicated to the God Tyr''. Gentofte
Gentofte () is a district of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Major landmarks include Gentofte Town Hall, Gentofte Hospital and Gentofte Church. Gentofte Lake with surrounding parkland and nature reserves form the most important greenspace. Geography Gentofte is roughly bounded by Lyngbyvej to the west, the S-train line to Hillerød to the northeast, Bernstorffsvej to the east and Kildegårdsvej to the south. The southern border with Hellerup is, however, not clearly defined. Gentofte postal district has a somewhat different definition. Gentofte, as defined by Gentofte Municipality, covers circa 335 hectares or 13% of the municipality's total.
