Ivan Smith (politician)
Ivan "Van" Smith is an American politician serving as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from the 42nd district. He assumed office on November 6, 2019. Early life and education Smith was born in Chilton County, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriscience from Auburn University, a Master of Science in agriscience from Alabama A&M University, and a teaching certificate in administrative education from the University of Montevallo. Career Prior to entering politics, Smith worked as an educator for 30 years, including 13 as principal of Billingsley High School. Since 2013, he has worked as a cattle farmer. The University of Montevallo is a public university in Montevallo, Alabama. Founded on October 12, 1896, the university is Alabama's only public liberal arts college and a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The University of Montevallo Historic District was established in 1979 and included 16 buildings on campus. It was expanded in 1990 to include 75 buildings total. Chilton County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 45,014. The county seat is Clanton.
