Ivan Padalka
Ivan Ivanovych Padalka (Ukrainian: Івaн Івaнович Пaдалка: 15 November 1894, Zhornoklyovy, currently Cherkasy Raion — 13 July 1937, Kiev) was a Ukrainian painter, art professor and author who was shot during the Great Terror. Biography He was one of eight children born to a farming family of modest means. He began his education at the local parish school, where he first displayed a talent for art. His abilities were noticed by a local nobleman, who helped him to finance studies at the State Ceramics Vocational School in Myrhorod with Opanas Slastion. His work was often held up as a model for the class. He worked there until 1913, when he was excluded for organizing revolutionary activities. He then went to Poltava and found a position at the , where they made copies of Ukrainian carpet designs for a weaving workshop in Kiev owned by Bogdan Khanenko, who was a major patron of the arts. Cherkasy Raion ( uk, Черкаський район, translit.: ''Cherkas'kyi raion'') is a raion (district) of Cherkasy Oblast. Rodovid is a free online collaborative family tree portal. Originally a Ukrainian project, as of 2012 it had active communities in 25 languages. It provides a web service built using MediaWiki and its own Rodovid Engine software to help store and visualize family relationships. About the project Rodovid was founded in September 2005 by a group of developers and genealogy enthusiasts in Kyiv, Ukraine. The name comes from the Ukrainian word '' rodovid'', meaning "lineage" or "genealogy". As of January 2019, Rodovid had over 1,055,000 total records for individuals across all languages, including over 590,000 in Ukrainian and Russian. Some sources claim that it the second largest free genealogy service online, and the largest in any language other than English. However, the Roglo database seems much larger. Vasily Teofanovych Sedlyar (Ukrainian: Васи́ль Теофанович Седля́р: 12 April 1899, Khristyvka, Shyshaky Raion — 13 July 1937, Kiev) was a Ukrainian painter, illustrator and art teacher; executed in the Great Purge. He was also known for his ceramic and faience work. Biography He was born to a peasant farming family. From 1915 to 1919, he studied at the Kiev Art School then, from 1919 to 1923, at the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts under Mykhailo Boychuk. He later became one of Boychuk's closest associates.
