Ivan Mikloš
Ivan Mikloš (born 2 June 1960) is a Slovak politician and the former Minister of Finance of Slovakia (2010–2012). He previously served as Slovakia's Minister of Finance from 2002 to 2006, and Deputy Prime Minister for Economy between 1998 and 2002. In 2004, he was named the top business reformer by the World Bank's Doing Business report. Under his leadership, Slovakia jumped to 32nd place (of 178 economies) on the ease of doing business index. He is also known for attending the annual meeting of the Bilderberg Group in 2005. Personal life Mikloš was born in Svidník. He is married and has two children. Ease Of Doing Business Index
The ease of doing business index was an index created jointly by Simeon Djankov, Michael Klein, and Caralee McLiesh, three leading economists at the World Bank Group. The academic research for the report was done jointly with professors Edward Glaeser, Oliver Hart, and Andrei Shleifer. Higher rankings (a low numerical value) indicated better, usually simpler, regulations for businesses and stronger protections of property rights. Empirical research funded by the World Bank to justify their work show that the economic growth effect of improving these regulations is strong. Though the first report was authored by Djankov, Klein, and McLiesh, and they continue to be listed as "founders" of the report, some sources attribute the genesis of the idea to Djankov and Gerhard Pohl. "Tatra Tiger" is a nickname that refers to the economy of Slovakia in period 2002 – 2007, following the ascendance of a right-leaning coalition in September 2002 which engaged in a program of liberal economic reforms. The name "Tatra Tiger" derives from the local Tatra mountain range. In 2004 and 2005, Slovakia had one of the highest gross domestic product growth rates in the European Union after some of the Baltic countries, reaching 6%.
