Ivan Jones (rugby League)
Ivan Jones (10 November 1942 – 22 February 2015) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. Jones was a premiership winning halfback with South Sydney. Playing career Originally from Brisbane, Jones was a Souths junior who played four first grade seasons with the South Sydney Rabbitohs between 1965 and 1969. He won a premiership with South Sydney Rabbitohs, playing half-back in the winning 1967 Grand Final team that defeated Canterbury-Bankstown 12–10. Ivan Jones also played for Souths in the 1965 Grand Final loss to St. George 12–8. He lost his place in the stellar South Sydney first grade team to Bob Grant in 1968, and he finished his career at Western Suburbs Magpies in 1970. He was awarded Life Membership of Souths in 2002. The Western Suburbs Magpies (legal name: Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd) are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. 1967 NSWRFL Season
The 1967 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 60th season of Sydney's professional rugby league football competition, Australia's first. The introduction of the Cronulla-Sutherland and Penrith clubs saw a total of twelve teams from across the Sydney area compete for the J.J. Giltinan Shield and WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a grand final between South Sydney and Canterbury-Bankstown. This was also the first live televised broadcast of a football grand final of any code in Australia. Season summary The 1967 season was the first played under the limited tackle rule, replacing the previous era (since the code's 1908 inception) of unlimited tackles. Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Belmore, a suburb in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney. They compete in the NRL Telstra Premiership, as well as competitions facilitated by the New South Wales Rugby League, including the Canterbury Cup NSW, the Jersey Flegg Cup, Harvey Norman Women's Premiership, Tarsha Gale Cup, S. The 1965 New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership was the 58th season of the rugby league competition based in Sydney. Ten clubs from across the city competed for the J.J. Giltinan Shield and the WD & HO Wills Cup during the season, which culminated in a grand final between St. George and South Sydney. Bob Grant (rugby League)
Bob Grant (born 5 June 1946) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. A New South Wales interstate and Australian international representative , he played most of his club football for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, with whom he won three premierships. Club career He featured in the talented South Sydney sides of the late 1960s and early 1970s. He played in the premiership victories of 1968, 1970 and 1971. Grant starred with two tries in Souths' convincing 23–12 victory over Manly in the 1970 Grand Final. In all he played 135 club games for South Sydney between 1966 and 1975.
