Itterbeek
Itterbeek is a historical village in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, and since 1977 a submunicipality of Dilbeek. Toponymy The village derives its name from the Indo-European words 'eud-' (water) en 'baki' (stream). One of the first mentions dates back to the 12th century, as ''Itrebecche''. In 1176 the village was mentioned as ''Itterbecca''. History Itterbeek used to be part of the allodium of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. During the 9th century, it became subject to the chapter of Cologne. Itterbeek gained some importance in the 13th century when the area, despite the presence of vassals of the family van der Aa, came under the power of Gaasbeek and formed the so-called Nieuw Land van Gaasbeek together with Dilbeek and Sint-Martens-Bodegem. Judicial power was exercised by a bench of aldermen. Around 1244, Itterbeek became a separate parish, as part of the diocese of Cambrai. Dilbeek
Dilbeek () is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in the Flemish region of Belgium. The municipality comprises the villages of Dilbeek proper, Groot-Bijgaarden, Itterbeek (with Sint-Anna-Pede), Schepdaal (with Sint-Gertrudis-Pede), Sint-Martens-Bodegem, and Sint-Ulriks-Kapelle. Dilbeek is located just outside the Brussels-Capital Region, in the Pajottenland, hence the local name ''Poort van het Pajottenland'' (Gate to the Pajottenland). Even though Dilbeek is located in the Dutch language area of Belgium, there is a French-speaking minority represented by 3 members on the 35-seat local council. Sint-Anna-Pede
Sint-Anna-Pede is a village in Itterbeek, Belgium, which is a deelgemeente of Dilbeek. It gets its name from the Pedebeek, the stream that flows through the village. Sint-Anna-Pede was already mentioned in the first half of the 12th century as "Pethe"; later also as "capelle beatissima Anna in Peda" and as "apud Pede juxta nova capella", which means that there was possibly an older building at the same site. Lambic
Lambic () is a type of beer brewed in the Pajottenland region of Belgium southwest of Brussels and in Brussels itself since the 13th century. Types of lambic beers include gueuze, kriek lambic and framboise. Lambic differs from most other beers in that it is fermented through exposure to wild yeasts and bacteria native to the Zenne valley, as opposed to exposure to carefully cultivated strains of brewer's yeast. This process gives the beer its distinctive flavour: dry, vinous, and cidery, often with a tart aftertaste. Etymology This beverage is first mentioned in 1794 as ''allambique''. The initial 'a' was dropped early on, so that in an 1811 advert it was called ''lambicq'', though it was sometimes referred to as ''alambic'' as late as 1829. Sint-Gertrudis-Pede
Sint-Gertrudis-Pede is a village in Dilbeek. Toponymy According to local legend, Gertrude of Nivelles, abbess of Nivelles Abbey, was on her way to Lennik when her carriage became stuck in the mud. Therefore, she was obliged to continue her journey on foot. The name Pede would come from the Latin for "on foot". History Sint-Gertrudis-Pede grew around the place where different streams came together to form the Pedebeek, of which the largest is the Laarbeek. Around these streams were three large farms, who originally depended on the abbey of Nijvel, and later on Gaasbeek. The village never became an independent municipality, however this almost was the case. On 19 May 1893 the motion to create the municipality of Sint-Getrudis-Pede was accepted in the Chamber of Representatives, but was rejected by the Senate. The Davidsfonds is a Catholic organisation in Flanders, Belgium with the purpose of promoting the Flemish culture in the areas of literature, history and art. The Davidsfonds was founded in Leuven, Belgium on 15 January 1875, with the motto ''Voor Godsdienst, taal en volk'' (E: For religion, language and people).
