Itami Station (Hankyu)
is a train station in Itami, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan that serves as the northern terminus of the Itami Line. History The station opened in 1920 at street level on a site approximately 150 meters southeast of its present location, and relocated to its present elevated site in 1968. The station was severely damaged by the Great Hanshin earthquake in January 1995, and ceased operations until March, when a temporary terminal opened 400m away. The 1968 station site was redeveloped as the "Reita" complex, and the station moved back to its original location in November 1998. In 2007, Hyogo Prefecture announced plans to connect the station to JR Itami Station and Itami Airport via a light rail system, but funds have yet to be committed to the project. Hankyū Itami Line
The is a railway line of Hankyu Railway in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, connecting Tsukaguchi Station in the city of Amagasaki and Itami Station in the city of Itami. It extends . History The line opened, electrified at 600 VDC in 1920, and duplicated in 1943. The voltage was raised to 1500 VDC in 1967. The Itami station building collapsed during the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995, and a temporary station opened 400m south of the original station three months later while the original station was torn down and rebuilt. A single track was restored to the rebuilt station site in 1998, and dual track service resumed in 1999. Great Hanshin Earthquake
The , or Kobe earthquake, occurred on January 17, 1995, at 05:46:53 JST (January 16 at 20:46:53 UTC) in the southern part of Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, including the region known as Hanshin. It measured 6.9 on the moment magnitude scale and had a maximum intensity of 7 on the JMA Seismic Intensity Scale (XI on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale). The tremors lasted for approximately 20 seconds. The focus of the earthquake was located 17 km beneath its epicenter, on the northern end of Awaji Island, 20 km away from the center of the city of Kobe. Approximately 6,434 people died as a result of this earthquake; about 4,600 of them were from Kobe. Among major cities, Kobe, with its population of 1.5 million, was the closest to the epicenter and hit by the strongest tremors. is a passenger railway station located in the city of Itami, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. It is operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West)..The station is connected to a large indoor mall to the northwest by a broad pedestrian bridge. Though Hankyu Itami Station is not within easy walking distance, there is also a series of broad pedestrian streets heading in its direction.
