Salvatore Antibo
Salvatore Antibo (born 7 February 1962) is a former long-distance runner from Italy. He won nine medals at the International athletics competitions. but curiously, he never won national championship (not outdoor, not indoor). Biography Antibo was born on 7 February 1962 in Altofonte, within the province of Palermo (Sicily). He revealed as a consistent middle-distance runner in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, when he arrived fourth in the 10,000 m final. His national popularity was however overshadowed by his compatriot Alberto Cova, who won the gold medal. After a bronze medal at the 1986 European Championships, behind Stefano Mei and again Cova, he gained the status of Italian number one, winning the silver medal over 10,000 m at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Libania Grenot Martinez (born 12 July 1983) is a Cuban-born Italian former athlete specialising in the 400 metres. Two times European champion (2014, 2016), she holds the Italian records in the 200 and 400 metres. Biography Born in Santiago de Cuba on 12 July 1983, Grenot started running at the age of 9. In 2003-05, she was a Cuban champion in the 400 metres. In 2006, she married an Italian man and relocated to Casal Palocco, a XXXIV zone of Rome. Grenot acquired Italian citizenship in 2008, and that same year, she broke an Italian record in the 400 meters with a time of 51.05 s and then 50.83 seconds. The latter performance took place at the Beijing Olympics during the semi-final, but despite this effort she did not reach the final. 2010 IAAF Continental Cup
The 1st IAAF Continental Cup was an international track and field sporting event held under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations. Originally scheduled as the 11th IAAF World Cup in Athletics, it was renamed in 2008 when the IAAF revamped the competition format. It was held in Split, Croatia on 4–5 September 2010. The competition mascot was an anthropomorphic white seagull with a blue hat and scarf, named Marino. Designed by children from the Juraj Bonači educational centre, the mascot builds on the fact that Split is a coastal city. The attendance for the second day of the competition was about 25,000. Format The four teams competing in the event were Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Andrea Benvenuti (born 13 December 1969 in Negrar, Verona) is an Italian former 800 metres runner. Biography He won the gold medal at the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki. Previously, he had come fifth in the 1992 Olympic final and third in the World Cup 1992. He represented his country at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics. He is the Italian record holder of the 1000 metres with the time of 2:15.76. His personal best in 800 metres is 1:43.92. He is a two-time national champion at the Italian Athletics Championships. Alessandro Andrei
Alessandro Andrei (born 3 January 1959) is an Italian former shot putter. He was born in Florence. Biography Andrei threw with his right hand, using the glide technique (at time many elite-level shot putters had switched to the spin/rotation style.) Andrei won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. In 1987 he broke the world record three times in the same competition with successive throws of 22.72, 22.84 & 22.91 m (and finishing the sequence with a throw of 22.74 m). He was the first athlete in history to have a shot put series with all 6 throws over 22 meters, an accomplishment that wasn't repeated until 2020 by Ryan Crouser. He is married to Agnese Maffeis.
