The cinema of Italy (, ) comprises the films made within Italy or by Italian directors. Since its beginning, Italian cinema has influenced film movements worldwide. Italy is one of the birthplaces of art cinema and the stylistic aspect of film has been the most important factor in the history of Italian film. As of 2018, Italian films have won 14 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film (the most of any country) as well as 12 Palmes d'Or (the second-most of any country), one Academy Award for Best Picture and many Golden Lions and Golden Bears. The history of Italian cinema began a few months after the Lumière brothers began motion picture exhibitions. The first Italian director is considered to be Vittorio Calcina, a collaborator of the Lumière Brothers, who filmed Pope Leo XIII in 1896. ''Autopsy'' (original Italian title ''Macchie solari'', also known as ''The Victim'' and ''Corpse'') is a 1975 Italian giallo- horror film directed by Armando Crispino. It achieved a '' cult'' status for its truculent morgue scenes. The Italian title translates as ''Sunspots''. Plot During a rash of unusual suicides in Rome that scientists theorize are being caused by sunspots, a young female morgue doctor (Mimsy Farmer) is told by a priest that he thinks his sister was murdered, although he is being told it was suicide. They team up to investigate the cause of his sister's death. Steno, the artistic name of Stefano Vanzina (19 January 1917 – 13 March 1988), was an Italian film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. Paolo Carlini
Paolo Carlini (6 January 1922 – 3 November 1979) was an Italian stage, television and film actor. He appeared in 45 films between 1940 and 1979. He is perhaps best-known to international audiences for his supporting role as the hairdresser Mario in ''Roman Holiday'' (1953) alongside Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Born in Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna, Carlini followed the acting courses held by actress Teresa Franchini and debuted at very young age on stage. He is regarded as one of the early stars of Italian television mini-series (the so-called "sceneggiati"). He is also well known for his association with actress Lea Padovani, with whom he starred in a number of critically acclaimed stage dramas in the 1950s. Gloria Guida (; born 19 November 1952) is an Italian actress and model. She is best known for starring in commedia erotica all'italiana, particularly the ''La liceale'' series, and also in erotic coming-of-age-drama films in the mid-1970s. Life and career Gloria Guida was born in Merano, Trentino-Alto Adige, to a family from Emilia Romagna. She moved with her family to Bologna as a child. She first began a singing career, starting in her father's dancing place on the Romagna coast. Then she took up modeling, becoming ''Miss Teenage Italia'' in 1974. Guida subsequently went on to star in many sexy comedies. Mario Imperoli (24 June 1931 - 24 December 1977) was an Italian director, producer, screenwriter and journalist. Born in Rome, Imperoli started his career as a journalist for several magazines and newspapers. He entered the cinema industry in 1970, as the screenwriter and producer of the Vittorio De Sisti's giallo ''L'interrogatorio''. He later directed eight films, often characterized by erotic themes. Blue Jeans (1975 Film)
''Blue Jeans'' is a 1975 Italian erotic-drama film directed by Mario Imperoli and starring Gloria Guida. Plot Daniela (Gloria Guida), nicknamed "Blue Jeans" after her cut-off jean shorts, is an underage streetwalker. She is caught by the police and claims that she is the illegitimate daughter of Dr. Carlo Anselmi (Paolo Carlini), a renowned restoration artist living in Latina countryside. Although Anselmi claims the opposite, Daniela's word is taken as a presumption of law and she is entrusted to Anselmi. Anselmi quickly bonds with his supposed newfound daughter, however their borderline-incestuous attraction causes friction with Anselmi's girlfriend Marisa (Annie Carol Edel). Krista Nell
Krista Nell (1946–1975) was an Austrian film actress. Born Doris Kristanel, Krista Nell debuted in French cinema, then moved to Rome where became a minor starlet in Italian genre films, especially Spaghetti Westerns and commedie sexy all'italiana."Decameroticus", ''Nocturno Dossier'' n.56, March 2007, p.10 Nell went on to star in such films as '' Ivanhoe, the Norman Swordsman'', and Spaghetti Westerns such as '' Paid in Blood'', '' Blindman'', '' Kill Django... Giacomo Rossi Stuart (25 August 1925 – 20 October 1994) was an Italian film actor often credited as Jack Stuart or Giacomo Rossi-Stuart. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1953 and 1989. Biography Born in Todi to an Italian father and a Scottish mother, Stuart was a highly successful athlete when young; he competed in the pentathlon. After getting interested in acting, he studied at Actors Studio in New York City. Between the late 1950s and the late 1970s he was a major actor in Italian genre cinema. Eufemia "Femi" Benussi (born 4 March 1945) is a Yugoslav-Italian film actress. She appeared in 82 films between 1965 and 1983. Benussi was born in Rovigno, Italy (now Rovinj, Croatia). She debuted on stage at the ''Teatro del Popolo'' of Rijeka, then she moved to Rome and made her film debut at 19 in ''Il boia scarlatto'', with the stage name Femy Martin.
