Italian Physical Society
The (SIF) or Italian Physical Society was founded in 1897 and is a non-profit organization whose aim is to promote, encourage, protect the study and the progress of physics in Italy and in the world. It is associated with the journal series '' Nuovo Cimento''. SIF also publishes the academic journals '' Quaderni di Storia della Fisica'' and '' Giornale di Fisica''. Some of the ''Nuovo Cimento'' journals were merged with ''European Physical Journal'' in 1986 and with ''Europhysics Letters'' in 1999. '' Il Bolletino della Società Italiana di Fisica'' was published from 1956 to 1984. In 1984, it became '' Il Nuovo Saggiatore'' ("The New Assayer"). The SIF organizes an annual national congress of study at one of the Italian universities. Its other major initiatives are the management of the "Enrico Fermi" International School of Physics (an annual summer school held in Varenna), and the organization of conferences on specific topics. The University of Pavia ( it, Università degli Studi di Pavia, UNIPV or ''Università di Pavia''; la, Alma Ticinensis Universitas) is a university located in Pavia, Lombardy, Italy. Luisa Cifarelli FInstP (born 11 June 1952) is a Professor of Experimental Particle Physics at the University of Bologna. She is the Director of the La Rivista del Nuovo Cimento. Early life and education Cifarelli was born in Rome in 1952. She studied physics at the University of Bologna and graduated in 1975. She worked as a researcher in at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and CERN. She edited the collection of scientific studies for the publication ''QCD at 200 TeV''. The Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (commonly known in Italy as "la Normale") is a public university in Pisa and Florence, Tuscany, Italy, currently attended by about 600 undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD) students. Franco Bassani
Giuseppe Franco Bassani (October 29, 1929, Milan – September 25, 2008, Pisa) was an Italian physicist. Biography Franco Bassani graduated cum laude in physics from the University of Pavia in November 1952. After two years as a researcher at the Italian National Research Council in Milan (with Professors Piero Caldirola and Fausto Fumi), he moved to the United States, where until 1956 he worked with Frederick Seitz at the University of Illinois. Varenna
Varenna (Comasco, Lecchese: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy, located about north of Milan and about northwest of Lecco. Varenna was founded by local fishermen in 769, and was later allied with the commune of Milan. In 1126 it was destroyed by the rival commune of Como, and later received the refugees from the Isola Comacina, who had met the same fate (1169). Enrico Fermi
Enrico Fermi (; 29 September 1901 – 28 November 1954) was an Italian (later naturalized American) physicist and the creator of the world's first nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile-1.
