Itaituba Airport is the airport serving Itaituba, Brazil. History Itaituba is one of the most important airports in the southwest region of the state of Pará, being classified as a regional airport. It is served by regular flights. In addition, air taxi companies offer flights to small villages and localities farther away from the city urban area, as well as to several gold mining spots and neighboring cities. Itaituba is a city and municipality located in the state of Pará, Brazil, and one of the most important socioeconomic centers in the western region of the State. Location Itaituba is the fifteenth largest city (by population) in the State of Pará, third largest city in the western region, and has the thirteenth largest gross domestic product in the state. The city is regarded as a medium-sized city, and one of the fastest growing cities in the countryside of Brazil. The name of the city origins from Tupi (an indigenous language), which literally means ''gravel place''. People from the city of Itaituba are known as ''itaitubenses''. The De Havilland Canada DHC-8, commonly known as the Dash 8, is a series of turboprop-powered regional airliners, introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984. DHC was later bought by Boeing in 1988, then by Bombardier in 1992; then by Longview Aviation Capital in 2019, reviving the De Havilland Canada brand. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100s, it was developed from the Dash 7 with improved cruise performance and lower operational costs, but without STOL performance. Jacareacanga is a municipality in the state of Pará in the Northern region of Brazil. It is at the very centre of South America. Conservation The municipality contains the Crepori National Forest, created in 2006. It contains 14% of the Tapajós Environmental Protection Area, created in 2006. It contains part of the Amaná National Forest, a sustainable use conservation unit created in 2006. Indigenous territories The municipality contains the Sai Cinza Indigenous Territory, established in 1991. It contains part of the Mundurucu Indigenous Territory, established in 2004. Júlio Belém Airport is the airport serving Parintins, Brazil. It is named after Júlio Furtado Belém (1911–1971), a local politician and member of the Amazonas State Assembly. Manaus International Airport – Eduardo Gomes is the airport serving Manaus, Brazil. It is named after Brazilian politician and military figure Air Marshal Eduardo Gomes (1896–1981). It is operated by Vinci Airports History Manaus International Airport replaced Ponta Pelada Airport as the main public airport of Manaus in 1976. Ponta Pelada was then renamed Manaus Air Force Base and began handling exclusively military operations.
