It's Your Thing (film)
''It's your Thing'' is an independently filmed 1970 concert film funded by The Isley Brothers. The film was directed by Mike Gargiulo and the production was supervised by Betty Sperber. Concert The concert was filmed at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York on June 21, 1969. It was recorded and subsequently released as a live album titled ''Live at Yankee Stadium'' on T-Neck Records in October 1969. Ike & Tina Turner who are featured in the film are not included on the live album because they didn't not participate in the original concert. Their segment was filmed separately in 1970 and added to the film. A concert film, or concert movie, is a film that showcases a live performance from the perspective of a concert goer, the subject of which is an extended live performance or concert by either a musician or a stand-up comedian. Early history The earliest known concert film is the 1948 picture ''Concert Magic''. This concert features virtuoso violinist Yehudi Menuhin (1916–1999) at the Charlie Chaplin Studios in 1947. Together with various artists he performed classical and romantic works of famous composers such as Beethoven, Wieniawski, Bach, Paganini and others. The earliest known jazz concert film is the 1959 film ''Jazz on a Summer's Day''. The film was recorded during the fifth annual Newport Jazz Festival. The Winstons
The Winstons were an American funk and soul music group based in Washington, D.C. They are known for their 1969 recording featuring a song entitled "Color Him Father" on the A-side, and "Amen, Brother" on the B-side. Halfway into "Amen, Brother", there is a drum solo (performed by G.C. Coleman) which would cause the release to become the most widely sampled record in the history of electronic music. Sampled audio clips of the drum solo became known as the Amen break, which has been used in thousands of tracks in many musical genres, including drum and bass, hip hop, jungle, big beat and industrial. The "Color Him Father" record sold over one million copies, and received a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America on 24 July 1969. It also won a Grammy Award for the Best Rhythm and Blues Song (1969). The UCLA Film & Television Archive is a visual arts organization focused on the preservation, study, and appreciation of film and television, based at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). John Lindsay
John Vliet Lindsay (; November 24, 1921 – December 19, 2000) was an American politician and lawyer. During his political career, Lindsay was a U.S. congressman, mayor of New York City, and candidate for U.S. president. He was also a regular guest host of ''Good Morning America''.
