The Olympic Committee of Israel (Hebrew: הוועד האולימפי בישראל) is the recognized National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Israel, and the governing body of Olympic sports in Israel. The OCI's headquarters is located at the National Sport Center – Tel Aviv. History In 1933 the Palestine National Olympic Committee was officially formed, and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in May 1934, despite never competing. Leah Ravid Horowitz (Zimri) (לאה הורביץ זמרי; also "Lea" and "-Simri"; 9 March 1933 – 5 December 1956) was an Israeli former Olympic hurdler. She was born in Pforzheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and was Jewish. Hurdling career Her personal best in the 80 metre hurdles was 12.74, in 1952. Ralph Klein, also known as Rafael "Ralph" Ram ( he, רלף קליין July 29, 1931 – August 7, 2008) was an Israeli professional basketball player and coach (basketball), coach. In Israel, he was known as "Mr. Basketball". Early life Klein was born in Berlin, during the time of the Weimar Republic, to an affluent Hungarian Jewish family, that returned to Budapest, before the outbreak of World War II. His father was murdered in Auschwitz, but he and his family survived thanks to efforts by Raoul Wallenberg. Zacharia (Zekaarya) Ofri ( זכריה עופרי) A(7 August 1932 – 9 March 2018) was an Israeli basketball player. He was captain of the Israeli National team that competed in the men's tournament at the 1952 Summer Olympics as well as in the 1953 European Cup in Moscow (name transliterated as Afari) and the 1954 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro (name transliterated as Afri) Ofri was also captain of the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team in Israel. The Israeli national team was unable to play in the 1956 Olympics because of the Sinai War (Ofri served in the Tank Corps). In 1957, as a compensation for missing the Olympic games, the team went on an exhibition tour in the United States. Ofri was offered a scholarship to play on the NYU basketball (and soccer) teams, and completed his degree in education at NYU.
