Ismail Omar Abdul Aziz
Dr. Awang Haji Ismail bin Omar Abdul Aziz was the first state mufti of Brunei under the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, later State Mufti Office. He was a Malaysian expatriate ulema (a native Johorean Malay) and held many important posts in Johore. He became the State Mufti of Brunei in 1962 under the terms of 3 years. In 1965, he still stayed as the State Mufti until his death in 1994. He died in Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. State Mufti Of Brunei
The State Mufti ( ms, Mufti Kerajaan) is the most senior and most influential Sunni Muslim Ulema (religious and legal authority) in Brunei. The holder of the position is appointed by the Sultan of Brunei. The State Mufti is the head of the all Ulema in Brunei. Role The State Mufti is the most senior religious authority in the country. His main role is to give opinions (''fatwas'') on legal matters and on social affairs base on Islamic Koran, Hadeeth, Qiyas and Ijma' of Ulema. A Mufti (; ar, مفتي) is an Islamic jurist qualified to issue a nonbinding opinion ('' fatwa'') on a point of Islamic law (''sharia''). The act of issuing fatwas is called ''iftāʾ''. Muftis and their ''fatwas'' played an important role throughout Islamic history, taking on new roles in the modern era. Tracing its origins to the Quran and early Islamic communities, the practice of ''ifta'' crystallized with the emergence of the traditional legal theory and schools of Islamic jurisprudence (''madhahib''). The Royal Brunei Mausoleum ( ms, Kubah Makam Diraja Brunei) is a Royal Mausoleum of Brunei located at Jalan Tutong, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The Mausoleum is the main resting place and burial ground for several Sultans of Brunei and members of the Royal Family. The Royal Mausoleum was opened during the reign of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin I who later became the first monarch to be buried in the Mausoleum when he died in 1795. Hajji ( ar, الحجّي; sometimes spelled Hadji, Haji, Alhaji, Al-Hadj, Al-Haj or El-Hajj) is an honorific title which is given to a Muslim who has successfully completed the Hajj to Mecca.
