Ismail Mahdi
Ismail Mahdi (born May 28, 2003) is a Kenyan American football running back for the Texas State Bobcats. Mahdi began his college career with Houston Christian before transferring to Texas State in 2023. Early life and high school career Mahdi was born on May 28, 2003, in a refugee camp in Kenya. In late 2003, Mahdi and his family would migrate to the United States, residing in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Mahdi attended Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas. As a junior, he totaled 1,607 yards and 15 touchdowns. As a senior, Mahdi rushed for 1,362 yards and 14 touchdowns, before his season was ended due to a knee injury. He committed to play college football at Houston Christian University. NCAA Transfer Portal
The NCAA transfer portal is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) application, database, and compliance tool launched on October 15, 2018, to manage and facilitate the process for student athletes seeking to transfer between member institutions. The transfer portal permits student athletes to place their name in an online database declaring their desire to transfer. Athletes enter the portal by informing their current school of their desire to transfer; the school then has two business days to enter the athlete's name in the database. Once an athlete's name is entered in the database, coaches and staff from other schools are permitted to make contact with the athlete to inquire about their interest in visiting the campus and accepting a scholarship. 2023 Texas State Bobcats Football Team
The 2023 Texas State Bobcats football team represented Texas State University as a member of the Sun Belt Conference during the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by first-year head coach G. J. Kinne and played their home games at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas. The Bobcats finished the regular season 7–5, going 4–4 in Sun Belt play to finish second in the conference's West Division. Texas State was selected to a bowl game for the first time in program history and played Rice in the First Responder Bowl. The Bobcats would win the game 45–21 to finish the season with an overall record of 8–5; the eight wins broke the program record for most wins in a single season as an FBS program.
