Isles Of Capri, Florida
Isles of Capri is an island community located in unincorporated Collier County, Florida. The isles are a grouping of four mangrove islands that were developed and connected in the 1950s. The isles are connected by Capri Boulevard, and can be accessed from nearby State Route 951 (Collier Blvd). Isles of Capri is located just north of Marco Island. Background Leland L. "Doc" Loach purchased four mangrove islands in 1955. Soon after, the isles were dredged and connected to form its current configuration. Today, Isles of Capri is a vacation, boating and fishing community, evidenced by the numerous docks and a large marina located on the isles. Residents and visitors are attracted to the Isles by water activities and canal, bay and Gulf of Mexico views. Like Collier County, the island has both a permanent and seasonal population. Mangrove
A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline water, saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves are taxonomically diverse, as a result of convergent evolution in several plant families. They occur worldwide in the tropics and subtropics and even some temperate coastal areas, mainly between latitudes 30° N and 30° S, with the greatest mangrove area within 5° of the equator. Mangrove plant families first appeared during the Late Cretaceous to Paleocene epochs, and became widely distributed in part due to the plate tectonics, movement of tectonic plates. Florida State Road 951
State Road 951 (SR 951), locally known as Collier Boulevard, is a north–south divided highway that extends from the south end of the Judge S.S. Jolley Bridge in Marco Island to the Tamiami Trail (U.S. Route 41 (US 41)/ SR 90) near Naples Manor, along with a short piece between SR 84 and Interstate 75 (I-75). The highway once extended over long, traveling between Marco Island and SR 846 near Golden Gate. Portions of the former state highway are now part of County Road 951 (CR 951). Route description State Road 951 begins at the south end of the S.S.
